Project by: Lulu Fleming-Benite (12th Grade)
Project Advisor: James French
Student’s Advisor: Michele Blackwell

Description of the Project: For this continuation of my honors project, I wanted to continue working with the pen and ink medium, but I wanted to incorporate the use of color into my work. I worked with colored inks and experimented with the different ways color can be used.

Final Product (e.g., documents, images, video, audio, poster, display, etc.):

Final Reflection on Learning: I am grateful to have been able to thoroughly explore this medium thanks to this project and James’ guidance. I’d never worked with color before this project, and I can’t wait to learn how to use it more extensively.

Update on Progress from Weeks 1-3 (include any photos or video if relevant): For weeks 1-3, I did two self-portraits, one in cool colors and the other in warm colors. I then did the same but with the subject being a still life. I worked in my sketchbook.

Update on Progress from Weeks 4-6 (include any photos or video if relevant): For weeks 4-6, I began working with the figure and on a larger scale. I moved from my sketchbook to a large bristol pad. I worked this time in analogous colors. My sister modelled for me in 2-minute gestural poses and then in 30-minute long poses.

Update on Progress from Weeks 7-9 (include any photos or video if relevant): For weeks 7-9, I took my hand at illustration and used a Frank O’Hara poem as inspiration for some ink sketches, this time using colors regardless of their positions on the color wheel, though experimenting especially with complimentary colors.
