Description of the Project: My project is about gentrification in New York City. I will interview my dad about his experience with living through the quick, massive changes in the city. I will ask his opinion, what he has seen, and what he feels and thinks about it.

Final Reflection on Learning: I learned that I am a committed learner to things I care about. I have been interested in gentrification for a while and have always wanted to challenge the positive versus negative impacts on this city particularly, so this was a very exciting project for me to do. Some skills I will take with me beyond this project is how to ask questions in an interview that prompts a good response from the person and how to edit in the style of a documentary. This project has changed how I see gentrification because I got to hear some of the story. I heard the negative parts about my dad being kicked out of multiple places and having to find smaller and smaller apartments for a while at a higher price because of places being gentrified. I also realized that every person with different ethnicities, economic statuses, and jobs will have different experiences with gentrification because it helps a certain demographic more than others: white and rich people.  Though with this I learned it is a double-edged sword; it does some helpful things in the big picture.

  • I have filmed the documentary questions with my dad and all the other footage needed. Right now I am looking for photos of New York’s transformation and editing the video together. I will put below some of the other footage I took to show my progress:

  • I have completed my video interview/documentary.
