I enjoyed reading Joe Louis, the Great Black Hope, by Richard Bak for my history class. For the class, we had to write an outline of 10 songs leading to a musical about the person’s life. For this Honors project, since I love writing poetry, I wanted to continue this creative process by writing 10 poems based on Joe Louis’ life.

Please write a description of the project you are proposing. Why do you want to take this on, and what do you hope to learn?

I have enjoyed reading Joe Louis, the Great Black Hope, by Richard Bak for my history class. Our current assignment is to write an outline of 10 songs leading to a musical about the person’s life. For this Honors project, since I love writing poetry, I want to continue this creative process by writing 10 poems based on Joe Louis’ life.

Critical thinking, creativity, citizenship and courage are essential LREI learning values. Explain how you’ll draw on at least one of these values to complete your proposed project?

This project will encompass all four Cs. Critical thinking and Creativity will be required during the writing process. I will analyze Joe Louis’ Citizenship through my writing. And I will use Courage to perform one or several of my poems for my peers.

What is your proposed outcome? How will you be able to demonstrate successful completion of this Project? How do you plan to share your learnings with the larger LREI community (e.g., exhibit of work, poster of learnings, performance, etc.)?

I will write 10 poems and will perform one or several of them for my peers, perhaps during the Spring Festival.

Please provide a general outline that indicates your work plan for the trimester? What are some of the key project benchmarks (i.e., goals that will help to ensure that you finish the project)?

I think a good goal to set for myself would be 7 poems in total. If I have more time towards the end of the trimester I can use the time to further edit the ones I’ve written.

When do you plan on meeting?

  1. Aidhan, this looks like a great outline. I look forward to the poems you will produce through this Honors Project.
