For our honors project we watched a variety of Charlie Chaplin films and analyzed what made him the greatest actor of his time and one of the greatest of all time. After watching these films, we wrote, directed, acted out and edited a short Charlie Chaplin-esque film of our own.

Working through this project, Ruby and I learned about how to transport concepts that we read about, learned and/or watched about Charlie Chaplin & his films into a movie that would do justice to him and his legacy.

PROJECT PROPOSAL:

Please write a description of the project you are proposing. Why do you want to take this on, and what do you hope to learn?

For our honors project we will be watching Charlie Chaplin films and analyzing what made him the greatest actor of his time and one of the greatest of all time. After watching a few films, we will write, direct, act out and edit a short (3-5 minute) Charlie Chaplin-esque film of our own.

Critical thinking, creativity, citizenship and courage are essential LREI learning values. Explain how you’ll draw on at least one of these values to complete your proposed project?

We’ll incorporate them into our film (exactly in what way will be decided on when writing it later).

What is your proposed outcome? How will you be able to demonstrate successful completion of this Project? How do you plan to share your learnings with the larger LREI community (e.g., exhibit of work, poster of learnings, performance, etc.)?

Our proposed outcome will be a short film that anyone will be able to see via a link on the LREI blog or website or Honors Page. Working through this project, Ruby and I learned about how to transport concepts that we read about, learned and/or watched about Charlie Chaplin & his films into a movie that would do justice to him and his legacy.

Please provide a general outline that indicates your work plan for the trimester? What are some of the key project benchmarks (i.e., goals that will help to ensure that you finish the project)?

We will watch 2-5 Charlie Chaplin films and then write our own. We will set conscious goals for how long to film, write and edit.

When do you plan on meeting?
Tuesdays after school for 15-30 minutes

  1. Approved. I think you might also want to create a calendar or fixed schedule for your workflow this trimester. You may find it hard to find time with other after school and weekend commitments so if you plan in advance, that will really help ensure that you’re able to complete the research and creation of the film.

  2. Approved. I agree with Joy. Sticking to a manageable schedule will be essential.
