Though I have worked with film photography before, I have never quite been this intensive with it, completing two rolls in 48 hours. Thus I had to be very careful with light, framing and subject. Although these are all components of photographs, I learned that when dealing with film you have to deal with these three aspects very carefully seeing as you don’t have infinite chances to get the shot.

PROJECT PROPOSAL

Please write a description of the project you are proposing. Why do you want to take this on, and what do you hope to learn?

Since taking the class last year I really enjoyed film photography and I would really like to explore it more. I want to increase my skills with the entire process of photography, from loading the camera to developing prints. I don’t want to necessarily focus on any specific aspect of the film process, but look at the whole process and hone and explore my skills in each area. Next weekend I am traveling to San Fransisco and that is going to be my first subject. After that my next roles of film would either be portraits or series of different areas of New York depending on how the first project goes.  With each roll of film, I will practice the art of composing shots and consider the developing process and think of the best method based on the the particular photo at hand.

What is your proposed outcome? How will you be able to demonstrate successful completion of this Project?

My goal would be at least three roles of film but hopefully more and at least 20 fully developed photos that show case the best of my abilities. Also like I stated previously, to really work on my skills in all aspects of the film process.

When do you plan on meeting?

  1. Louie, can you add some details about potential subjects, or about the process you will engage in to determine your subjects? Will this be color or black and white film? Will you be exploring multiple processes or just basic developing? Thanks! I’m excited to see this, I just think it needs a bit more detail so we can all see the plan more clearly.
