Project by: Chloe Kellison (12th Grade)

Faculty Advisor: James French

Outcome:

Here is a photo of the final print that was used for the LREI’s admissions holiday card. I had been working on the project since last Spring, so I was relieved that the outcome was positive and that all of the time that went into the project paid off. This block print was difficult because it was my first time using multiple blocks for one image, which I had to do in order for it to be multi-colored. Each color required its own rubber block, so I had a red, green, white, brown, and yellow block. I would ink each block, print it, wait for the ink to dry, and then I would print the next color on top of it. Since there were five blocks and five layers of ink, it was difficult to align the blocks perfectly. It took me around fifty tries, give or take, in order for the colors to finally print as I intended. Once I had a clear print, I used photoshop to fix any small smudges.

PROPOSAL:

Please write a description of the project you are proposing. Why do you want to take this on, and what do you hope to learn?

This is a continuation of my Honors Project that I did in the last trimester of last year. I will be working with James to create the admissions card, using print making as my medium.

What is your proposed outcome? How will you be able to demonstrate successful completion of this Project?

The admissions winter/holiday card.

  1. Hi Chloe,

Thanks for sharing your work!! This sounds like a really laborious project – I’m so glad it paid off. I’d love to see each individual block, and the print as each successive color was added, I think it would be interesting to see the image develop.

Congratulations on a lovely holiday card, and a successful Honors Project.

    Best,
    Micah
