The Son of Neptune By Rick Riordan

This is a map of the battle to free death so monsters can die and go back to Tartarus and stay there. This is my favorite scene in the Son of Neptune in the Heroes of Olympus series by Rick Riordan. The Son of Neptune is the second book in the series after the Lost Hero.

They need to free death. If they don’t there won’t be a way to win the war because the monsters would be immortal just like gods. The main characters are Frank who is son of Mars(Ares), Hazel who is daughter of Pluto(Hades) and Percy who is The Son of Neptune(Poseidon). Percy is brave and courageous(and maybe a little stupid too). It takes place in Alaska and is probably in about 2013/2014. The book is fast paced and you cannot put it down if you like greek mythology.

The Girl Who Could Fly By: Victoria Forester

The book I read is called The Girl Who Could Fly. It is by Victoria Forester. The book is about a girl who is able to float.

Some pimgreseople might think floating and flying are pretty much the same. But not for Piper McCloud. Piper is the main character of this book. Piper discovers when she was really young that she could float. Betty and Joe McCloud (Piper’s mom and dad) are normal farmers that live out in Lowland County. They own a farm with many animals. Like everyone else.

Piper has never been a normal kid but her parents would never think that she could float. Betty and Joe do not want anyone to find out about this. Eventually Piper teaches herself how to fly. The difference between floating and flying is: Floating, you just go a few feet of the floor and can’t control when it happens and what happens while you are doing it. Flying, you go as high as you want, as fast as you want, when you want, and where you want.

Betty and Joe hate when Piper flies because she could give out her secret. But she does fly and her secret gets out. In front of everyone in town. Now everyone is trying to get to Piper. The McClouds stay locked up in there house. Until one day Letitia Hellion and all her agents come and they take Piper away from home. To teach her to use her flying and be in a safe environment away from all the danger. Well atleast that is what the McClouds thought. . .

So Piper decides to go with Dr. Hellion. Not knowing what was going to happen and what the road ahead of her looked like.

Piper makes a lot of friends there.

The setting of the book starts off at Piper’s hometown which is Lowland County. There are a lot of farms there and it is basically in the middle of nowhere. Once Letitia Hellion takes Piper to her institute the book is placed there. I don’t know where the institute is but it is very, very cold there. The institute is called I.N.S.A.N.E. The name of it kind of gives you the mood of the place. If you read the book it will tell you what it stands for.

Piper is the main-main character but there are co main characters too. Like Conrad Herrington lll. He has been in the institute for the longest. His special ability is that he is very, very smart.

Piper is strong. The kids in the institute try to test her but they get really surprised when she doesn’t start crying or back down. She stands up to them and proves herself to them. Conrad is really mean to everybody at the institute including Piper now. Piper doesn’t get really upset and doesn’t sit there doing nothing like all the other kids. Conrad has a really good reason to be mean to the other kids he is just trying to help them. In his case he is not even being mean. Piper is also brave. She left her parents even though she knew she might not ever see them again. It was her who stood up to Dr. Hellion after what Hellion did to her. I won’t say anything else because I will give everything away. Last but not least Piper is nice. She takes care of Jasper (the smallest and weakest kid there). She tries to think about the nurse and the kids at the institute.

Conrad is smart. Of course he is smart! That is his special ability. He figured out what Dr. Hellion’s objective was. (I can’t tell you what it is) He timed the escape by every second and had perfect coordinations. Conrad is also caring. He tries to hide it and maybe he doesn’t know. He tries to help all the kids at the institute so the things that Dr. Hellion is doing doesn’t affect them as quickly.

I like the part of the book when Conrad tells Piper why he has been so mean.  Then Piper and Conrad become friends and it was interesting to find out the information that Conrad knows. Another part of the book that is fun is when one of the girls there tries to test Piper. Her special ability is telekinesis. She moves Piper’s water glass up and down and Piper at first gets really annoyed. Then she does something no one has ever done before . . .   A time in the book I really liked but was so annoying is when Conrad makes/pushes Piper jump out of a really tall window. Piper of course flies herself to safety. Then Dr. Hellion gets extremely mad at Piper. Piper gets confused because Dr. Hellion doesn’t really care that Conrad pushed her but she just cares that Piper flew. Even though if Piper didn’t fly she would die. I liked it because now I was starting to figure out what Dr. Hellion’s actual personality is.

I really enjoyed this book. It was funny there were some mysteries and surprises kept coming at you that you would not expect. I also liked it because I liked Piper. She is brave, strong, nice, caring, adventurous, and mischievous etc..

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone. The cover might look scary but the book is not. It has people who have powers like telekinesis, smartness, storm creation, strength, electricity, and shrinking .I think everyone could read this book whether they love it or don’t like it that much.I would rate this book five stars

Charlie Bone and the Beast by Jenny Nimmo

Charlie is descended from a Welsh wizard and a magical king from Africa. I read Charlie Bone and the Beast over break. The author of the book is Jenny Nimmo who is the writer of The Orchard of the Crescent Moon and is the 7th book in the Charlie Bone series. The book is about a werewolf that betrays the person who “controls” him. The main characters of the book are Charlie Bone and Asa Pike (Wolf Boy). This book takes place someplace in England in 2007 or 2008 and I guess the author kind of does take you to a place. The central conflict is the bad people and the good people who are all descended from the Red King and are trying to get Asa on their side.

I think Charlie is smart, ruthless and friendly. I think He is smart and ruthless because he doesn’t think before doing things but he always does what’s right. I think he is friendly because he has a lot friends and treats them well. One of my favorite parts of the book is when they rescue Asa. I’m not allowed to write about because it is a very important part in the book. Another one of my favorite parts of the book is when they hear the howling and Billy figures out that the howling means help. After that they figure out that it is Asa.

I really enjoyed the book because it has a little bit of everything. Everything like mystery, horror and superpowers. I like the author’s writing style because she doesn’t really write cliffhangers I would recommend this book to people who have the first five books of the series first. I would also recommend this book to people who A lot of book topics. I really do not think this book is related to any other books. I give this book four stars because I really enjoyed but I do not want to read it again.

Gabriel Finley and the Ravens Riddle by George Hagen

The book I read was Gabriel Finley and the Raven’s Riddle by George Hagen. The the book takes place in Brooklyn.  The main characters are Gabriel20307079 Finley, Somes Grindle, Abby, and Pamela. A wicked torc, a stubborn writing desk, and a group of valravens (evil flesh eating ravens), are obstacles in young Gabriel’s path to his father. Soon Gabriel befriends a young raven named Paladin, and learns the greatest secrets the world has ever held. He, Paladin and a group of friends travel down to the underground city, Aviopolis, where he finds his father. Soon his friends and his father get captured by valravens . To save them he challenges Corax (his uncle and the lord of the valravens) to a duel of riddles. Does he win? You will have to read to find out.

Abby is unique, thoughtful, and smart. Abby is unique because she is confident in wearing one color boot and a different color on the other. Also she does not care what other people think about her. Abby is thoughtful when she snuck caramel candies to Gabriel so he won’t have to eat the terrible food. Abby is smart because she cracked really hard riddles like “The mighty lion runs from me when my legs rise up in fury, yet quietly I serve beneath a judge and all his jury.”

One part that I found interesting was when Gabriel and Paladin formed into one, meaning that Gabriel went into Paladin’s body like a ghost. I thought that was interesting because I never knew what it was like in a raven’s body. How neat would it be to fly? A part that I found important was when Gabriel met his dad. That is important because parents take their children under their wing, and teach them important skills .

I enjoyed this book because it has a lot of adventures. Also I like friendship and family stories and this is one of them. I would recommend this book to readers who like Harry Potter or Percy Jackson. I say this because Harry Potter and Percy Jackson are very similar because they are both special types of humans and go on special missions. I would rate this book five stars *****.

Half Magic by Edward Eager

The title of the book that I read was Half Magic and it was written by Half_MagicEdward Eager. This book is about Jane is roughly fourteen, Mark is roughly twelve , Katharine is definitely nine and Martha is I think five or six. All four of them are siblings. They find a coin but no ordinary coin, it can grant wishes but only by halves. An example of this is, if you where to wish that you were in China you would only go half the way there! There are so many settings in this book but the kind of main one is the house. I think it takes place in the 19 hundreds because of their cloths. And the vehicles.

I would describe Jane as fierce, kind and scared. I think Jane is fierce because she never gives up and always protects her family. I think Jane is kind because she is always nice to people no matter what. I think Jane is scared in an emotional way not like scared of a monster or something. I think this because she is scared about what is going to happen next in her life. Some parts of the book that I found interesting were when Jane found the coin. I found this interesting  because right then you knew that the adventure would start and you fest exited. Something else that I found interesting was that the mom experienced the magic too. That was interesting because in most books the moms do not experience what the whole book is about. Like in some of the Harry Potters she just hears about what is happening and is not in the whole seen but in some books she is but that is just my opinion.

I enjoyed this book a lot because it is very exciting and you never know what the next disaster will be. I will recommend this book to people who likes fantasy. I also recommend this book to people who like history and knowing what is going to happen in the future. It’s kind of like seeing the future and maybe predicting it. Some other books and authors that write like Edward Eager is an author named Roald Dahl. I think this because he kind of writes like Edward Eager. I think this because there style and stories are alike and their pictures are a little alike. I would rate this book five stars and it is an awesome book!

Charlie Bone and the Time Twister by Jenny Nimmo

Thomas Book Review Three

Charlie Bone and the Time Twister

The name of the book I read was Charlie Bone and the Time Twister and the author is Jenny Nimmo. It is the second book in the Charlie Bone Series and there are eight in the series. The book is about Charlie Bone finding someone who he is related to but the catch is that he should be dead. The main characters are Charlie Bone, Henry Yewbeam, Billy Raven and Runner Bean. The setting of the book is The Pet’s Cafe, Bloor’s Academy and  Number Nine in the years 1916 and 2006.

Billy is  young, quiet and nice. He is nice but quiet because he’s shy but if you really get to know him he’s nice. Billy is young because he is seven, turning eight. My favorite part of the book is when Henry comes out of nowhere with a marble in his hand in Bloor’s Academy. I think the most important part is when Henry goes to live with James. Another important thing is when Charlie figures out that there is a secret passage from the Pets Cafe to Bloor’s Academy so he can get to Henry on the weekends. Bloor’s is closed down on the weekends so it makes sense that there is no way to get in on the weekends. I like it when Henry goes back to James and it feels like it’s a big HAPPY family reunion (without the sisters).

I enjoyed the book because there is mystery and adventure. There’s adventure when they explore Bloor’s Academy to figure out new mysteries to solve.  I would recommend this book because it takes a long time to read the whole series. Another reason I recommend this book is because it is action packed with spying, misbehaving and hypnotizing. There are no books similar to the book that I have read. I give this book I give this book FIVE STARS but I do not want to read it again because there are sooooooooooooooooooooooooo many other ones in the series.

When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead

book-whenyoureachme
I read When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead. It is about a girl named Miranda who is 12 years old. The book takes place in Manhattan, 1979. The book is mainly about Miranda’s best friend, Sal. Sal was really close to Miranda. It was always “Sal and Miranda, Miranda and Sal” until Sal got punched one day and strangely ever since he always played basketball but never played with Miranda and he didn’t talk to her much. This made Miranda feel lonely, but then she started getting mysterious letters and had to find out what they meant and how they would help her.

My favorite parts of the book that don’t give away too much of the book were firstly, when Miranda finds the first note that the mysterious person leaves for her in her bag. I liked this part because it’s like the beginning of a big mystery. My second favorite part of the book was when Miranda and her new friends get a job at Jimmy’s sandwich shop – The only guy who worked there was named Jimmy and they didn’t know what the store was called so they just called it Jimmy’s. I liked this part because Jimmy is a weird but funny guy because he only accepts two dollar bills and puts them all in a Flinstones piggy bank. Also he acts immature. For example, he always bugs Collin, one of Miranda’s friends about having a crush on Annmarie, Miranda’s other friend. I would describe Miranda as smart because once she has a few clues, she can solve a mystery. She is also thoughtful because she always has something on her mind. She also is curious because she wants to know who is sending the letters and what the consequences will be.

I loved this book because once you start reading it you just want to keep reading it. Also it involves time-travel which I found interesting. I would recommend this book because it is exciting. It is also very emotional. This book is like the book A Wrinkle Time because Miranda is reading it and some parts of the book are based on A Wrinkle In Time because in the end it turns out there is a little bit of time travel. I would give this book five stars because I would totally read it again. P.S , I actually am reading it again!

The Alchemyst by Michael Scott

The Alchemyst

By Thomas

In the there are things called Auras (not Aura, the girl in fourth grade) and almost everybody has a different one. The main characters are Sophie and Josh Newman, Dr. John Dee, Perenelle Flamel, and Nicolas Flamel. The title of my book is and it is in the series The Secrets of The Immortal Nicholas Flamel. The Author of my book is Michael Scott. The problem is that Dee and “The Bad Guys” are trying to remake the old time when Danu Talis (Atlantis) was still above water but Perenelle, Nicholas, Sophie, and Josh are trying to stop them because it will cause things to blow up all around the world. The setting of the book is in 2007 in the beginning of the summer and they travel all over world. I think the author of the book did a lot of studying because he takes so much Mythology from so many different places.

Perenelle is smart, tall, and elegant. Perenelle is smart because Nicholas always says “If only Perenelle were here” because he doesn’t have very good ideas. Perenelle is tall and elegant because in the book it says “was a tall, elegant woman.” I think the story is about the life of Nicholas Flamel. I also think the book is about the prophecy which you will find out if you read the book. One of the most interesting parts in the book is the battle of Hekate’s (Heh-ca-tay) Shadowrealm. Another one of my favorite parts are when Dee goes into Bastet’s home.  I think the part that changes the story the most is when Perenelle gets captured by Dee. One of the main characters does not make any big decisions.

I loved this book because it has some of my favorite genres. My favorite genres are Mythology and Action. I would recommend this book to people who like adventure and Mythology. The genres are Mythology, Action, and Adventure. This book has a main character mentioned in the first book in the Harry Potter series. I give this book five because it is a really good book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Percy Jackson and the Battle of the Labyrith By Rick Riordan

PercyBattleLabyrinth battle-of-the-labyrinth

There fighting monsters gods demigods and hydras it’s Percy Jackson and the Battle of the Labyrinth by Rick Riordan. It is the fourth book in the Percy Jackson series. The main character is Percy Jackson. The main problem in the story is that Luke (an evil demigod) is trying to navigate the labyrinth with the help of Daedalus. Percy and his friends are trying to find Daedalus before Luke. The setting is the labyrinth. Time moves faster in the labyrinth so you never know what time it is.

Stubborn, brave, strong, are all adjectives I would  use to describe Percy. He is stubborn because he doesn’t listen to anyone. He is brave because he is not afraid of anything. He is strong because he is a great at fighting monsters. Another part of the plot is every time they go on a quest for Camp Half-Blood (a camp for demigods)  they get mixed up in another person’s quest. Since they keep getting more quests the the direction of the story keeps changing. So, it takes them forever to finish their most important quest.

I enjoyed this book a lot. Because there is a lot of fighting Also the author is so descriptive about the characters feelings. I would recommend this book to someone who has read the rest of the series. The reader should be interested in Greek mythology. Another book I would connect to from this book would be the Heroes of Olympus because they were written by the same author and both are very descriptive about the feelings of the characters. I would give this book FIVE STARS
