Freakling, By Lana Krumweide

Freakling, by Lana Krumwiede, Is about a boy named Taemon. He and his family live in a futuristic religious world that in a place called Deliverance, everyone worships “The Heart Of The Earth”.

The Heart Of The Earth AKA, THOTE, gave everyone in Deliverance telekinesis, which they like to call psi. But, some people in this world have other special additional powers, like clairvoyance, for example, the young lady touched her iphone™ and immediately knew who owned it before her. Basically it is when he/she interacts with an object and immediately knows some random piece of information about it.

That is only one of the special powers. Taemon has one of the others. Priests in the THOTE temple arrest and banish people who have special telekinesis. Can Taemon stay safe? Can he even trust his own brother Yens? Read the book to find out.

Batman The Sires, By Bob Kane

I looooove this book. It was and original to the people who really like comic books, like myself. Batman is so cool. With all his gadgets and little tinkering devices. He has the skill of a regular superhero and is not a mutant or alien or experiment gone wrong.

He just went away for a few years and then came back this crime fighting awesome guy. One time he was fighting Joker, and he punched him in the stomach and The Boy Wonder/ Robin punched him in the legs and Joker went flying.

Robin is also really awesome because he always gets caught and he never ever dies. Then he remembers he has a homing devices, and boom batman is there. Batman is like a symbol to people like James Jordan the police commissioner.

“He’s the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we’ll hunt him. Because he can take it. Because he’s not our hero. He’s a silent guardian, a watchful protector. A dark knight.” -Jim Gordon in Batman

Well I give this book ten out of five stars because Batman is so awesome and he deserves better than regular comic. He is a awesome billionaire during the day, and he becomes an awesome crime fighters at night.

Here are a few more quotes from Batman. P.S, they are epic!

“It’s not underneath, but what we do that defines us.” Rachel Dawes in Batman

“Either you die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.” Harvey Dent in Batman

Mandy, By Julie Andrews Edwards

I read a book called Mandy, by Julie Andrews Edwards. I started to read it when I saw that a very famous actor was a writer. The book was about an orphan named Mandy. She would love to have a place to call her own. There is a big wall that is the border of the orphanage. One day Mandy finds a way to climb over the wall. When she gets over the wall she finds an old cottage in the woods. Everyday after school mandy climbs over the wall and does her best to make the cottage her own. She saves up her money to get things to use in her cottage and even lies to get the things for her cottage.

Two important events are when: One day Mandy is really sick. It is very cold out also but Mandy still goes to l the cottage. Another important event is when Sue, Mandy’s best friend and roommate follows her to the cottage. I won’t say why its important because it spoils the story. I think a decision that changes the story is when Mandy goes out when she is sick because it changes the rest of the story.

I really liked the book because It has a lot of adventure yet it doesn’t. I don’t like no adventure but I don’t like too much or it gets too busy for me to keep track of. I recommend the book to people who don’t like no adventure but don’t like a lot of it. I would rate the book 1000000 out of 5 stars.

Crogan’s Vengeance by Chris Schweizer

Crogan has a big problem. A pirate who Hates Crogan is the captain of Crogans ship and is  trying to kill Crogan. The setting of this book is Tortuga, another island, and Crogan’s ships. Actually, this book is really set in a random suburb because the author uses a framing device. A framing device is where you have two stories, usually someone is telling the story or thinking of it and the “framed” piece is the main part but the non-framed part is what’s really happening. Crogan is very acrobatic. There’s a reason he’s called “Catfoot” Crogan. He can swing from the crow’s nest on a rope in a semi circle and land next to the captain.imgres

Crogans old captain had a set of rules that keeps the pirates alive. For example one rule is not to plunder French ships because the pirates are helped by the French. A big event is when D’or (the new captain) decides to plunder a French ship so Crogan gets in trouble because too many people knew that Crogan was with D’or in a French island. That is also a problem because it means that D’or will give Crogan a bad reputation. Another important event is when the old captain give Tom Dander the small ship not D’or, his first mate because this makes D’or really mad. Theres a good quote from the old captain that helps prove my point. “In truth,I was surprised he didn’t throw thunder when I named Tom Dander captain ‘stead of him.”

I enjoyed this book a lot because it is good and has lots of action and suspense. Also, the story of Crogan is interesting because he starts as a man working for a crazy captain and ends up joining a pirate ship. I would recommend this book to people who like pirate adventures. I would also recommend this to people who like lots of action. I would rate this book ****4 stars out of five because it wasn’t that funny.

Dork Diaries (2)

WARNING: DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THE FIRST OF THIS BOOK OF THIS SERIES!

imgresThis book is called Dork Diaries (2), by Rachel Renee Russell. It is about a girl named Nikki. She is a pretty low key nice girl. She is a pretty “normal” girl. When I say normal I mean that she does her homework, she gets mad, there is nothing really weird or particularly special about her. Nikki has two friends named Chloe and Zoey. Nikki, in the last book was new at her school and didn’t have any friends.

The worst part of Nikki’s life at school is a girl named Mackenzie. Mackenzie is always mean to Nikki. Nikki and Mackenzie have a crush on the same person so Mackenzie is always mean to her about it. Mackenzie is a big bully especially to people who don’t have as much as her. Nikki said in the book “ She should have scribbled I’M SO JEALOUS across her forehead” That was about Mackenzie.

I liked this book a lot because I can learn from Nikki because she is in middle school and I am going into middle school so I can kind of tell how middle school can end up. My favorite part of the book is when Mackenzie is jealous of Nikki because it shows that Nikki is an amazing person who can do as much or even more than Mackenzie can in life. My least favorite part of the book is anytime when Mackenzie is being mean to Nikki because Mackenzie doesn’t know what Nikki is capable of. I would rate this book 5 out of 5 stars *****

The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

Book review by Jack Lille Yerington

TheGraveyardBook_Hardcover.jpg

The book I have been reading is called The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. The main character’s name is Nobody Owens (Bod for short). This book shows Bod’s life from when he was just a couple months old to when he is eight (so far). The setting of the book is the graveyard. He is living in the graveyard because his parents were killed by an assassin named Jack. He is being hidden by Silas (his guardian) and his adopted parents Mr. and Mrs. Owens. Bod can do something unique, he can see ghosts and everything dead. Every chapter of The Graveyard Book is a cliffhanger. Bod is curious, which leads to problems. For example, once he took his friend into a cave, and then almost died in the cave.

Bod has a lot of adventures in this book. Once, he noticed  some ghouls in the graveyard and they started talking to him. They talked for a little while and they finally persuaded him into going to Ghûlheim. Ghûlheim is where all kinds of creatures live, the ghouls live there, Night-Gaunts live there, Hellhounds live there, and much more. Bod was taken by the ghouls and put into a sack. He found a screw in the sack and started poking a hole in the sack. A Hellhound attacked the bag and Bod fell out. He was almost killed by the Hellhound but, he cried help in Night-Gaunt and was saved by one.

As I said earlier, Bod took his friend Scarlett into a cave, they were gone for a long time. Bod’s friend’s parents got worried and called the police. When she and Bod came out they were very relieved, however, they wouldn’t let her go to the graveyard again. She was allowed to go back to the graveyard one more time to say goodbye because she was moving. The last time she saw Bod Bod asked, “Go where?” Scarlett answered, “Scotland. There’s a university there. For Dad to teach particle physics.” Scarlett didn’t want to say goodbye to Bod but she had to.

I enjoyed this book because it was suspenseful. This book has ghosts and ghouls and more creatures, and I love that. It also has mystery which I really like. I would recommend this book to kids who are in 3rd grade and up. I would also recommend this book to kids who love mystery. I would give this book

The Day My Butt Went Psycho! By Andy Griffiths

This is my 7th book review!vutt

I think book is better than any book I have ever read. Everywhere on the cover it says based on a true story. It even has a paragraph about how it is based on a true story. The main character is Zach Freeman. This is the first thing he said before he started telling the story.”This is my story. It really happened. It’s all true. Not even the names have been changed. I agree to tell my story in the hope that others can learn from it, and I would like to thank Andy Griffiths for helping me to get it down on paper. Like most people I took my butt for granted for too long. If this book can save even just one person from making the same mistake, then I will be happy. Who knows? The next butt it saves might be yours. May your butt be with you always.” He has a butt that can detach itself from his body. His butt is like the king of all butts. Now you might think this is a weird thing but it is not. This thing happens a lot. Zack Freeman is ready to tell his story of a brave boy and his crazy runaway butt. The story has a crack butt-fighting unit called the B-team, a legendary Butt Hunter’s awesome daughter, and some of the ugliest, biggest and meanest butts ever to roam the face of the Earth. Zack goes on an epic journey across the Great Windy Desert, through the Brown Forest, and over the Sea of Butts before descending into the heart of an explosive buttcano to confront the biggest, ugliest, and meanest butt of them all! In the story they have disobedient butts, runaway butts, psycho butts, kamikaze butts, exploding butts, cluster butts, nuclear butts, giant unwiped butts, butt rallies, buttcachters, butt-fighters, butt hunters, butt guns and explosive buttcanos. This book has some insane animals too. Zach travels through The Great Windy Desert, The Brown Forest and The Sea of Butts.  This book has a lot of mystery, cliffhangers and plot changers in this book. I recommend this book to people that like funny books. I rate this book 5 stars.

Because of Winn Dixie by Kate Dicamilo

imgresI read this book called Because of Winn Dixie by Kate Dicamillo. The main character is this dog named Winn Dixie and this girl named Opal. Opal moves to Naomi, Florida and in Florida she has no friends. In Florida she becomes lonely and bored. All she has is her dad and her house and other people she doesn’t like. Until a stray dog runs loose into the Winn Dixie supermarket. Then she falls in love with him at first sight and lied that the dog was hers and named him Winn Dixie. Winn Dixie becomes Opal’s best friend.  Because of  Winn Dixie she meets new friends and the people she doesn’t like she becomes friends with.

In the book Opal makes all kinds of new friends, and becomes more forgiving. Opal realizes that every person has problems that cause them pain and everybody does things that are weird and maybe make you not like them but inside most people mean well. Opal is a kind lonely person who feels like she has no friends except for her dog. In the book Opal said, “And then I talked to God about how I was lonely in Naomi because I didn’t know that many kids, only the ones from church. And there weren’t that many kids at the Open Arms, just Dunlap and Stevie Dewberry, two brothers who weren’t twins but looked like they were. And Amanda Wilkinson, whose face was always pinched up like she was smelling something real bad: and Sweetie Pie Thomas, who was only five years old and still mostly baby. And none of them wanted to my friend anyway because they probably thought I’d tell on them to the preacher for every little thing they did wrong; and then they in trouble with God and their parents.”

I love this book because it really tells a story that is realistic but not true and the author wrote it nicely, and this is a book that you can really understand and relate to some of Opal’s problems. I would recommend this book to people who like dogs and are sensitive because that could help you feel like you are in the book and really there. I would rate this book five out of five stars.

Spirits in the Park, By Scott Mebus

warning this is a second book in the series

Rory has known about Mannahatta, the Native American world, for a very long time. Rory is a really good basketball player, he is strong, filled with passion and loves everything. “The boy can’t relax.” Says Rory’s sister. Rory is known as the light because he can see the spirits. The spirits world is mixed with the normal world and the gods who ruled New York City in its early days.

Only a month ago is when the earthquake struck. The earthquake affected him and his family. And then Sergeant Kiffer takes Rory to his place which is a not very good bar. This is no ordinary earthquake, though. Is it New York City attempting at breaking the Trap around Central Park that holds the in the Munsee Indians? Or is it something else?

The Trap must open or the balance between Mannahatta and Manhattan will be destroyed! And only Rory can open it. But will Rory take help from his newfound friends, including the band of children of the gods? A.K.A the Rattle Watch?

The book includes encounters with some of New York most famous figures, including Washington Irving, Captain Kidd and Bill the Butcher who will help Rory figure out how to do that. And the answer may just surprise him. . . .

I give this a book a 3 out of 5 stars because I was not on the tip of my toes the whole time. I like books that have a dangerous corner every page of the book. I read the first and that was much different. Things happened after one thing was resolved. This book isn’t half as good as the first.
