A School Story, By Andrew Clements

This book is called A School Story and if you like Andrew Clements you might like this book. The story is about a girl, her teacher and her best friend who write a book and they try to get it published by the girl’s mom. The really important characters are Natalie Nelson    the girl, Zoe her best friend, Hannah Nelson the girl’s mom and Mrs.Clayton the English teacher.

The story takes place at the Deary  School and at Shipley Junior Books, the publishing company.

I thought that that book was not the best book I have ever read in my whole life so I didn’t enjoy the book.  But there was some goodish exciting parts of the book, like when they had the publishing party for Cassandra Day, which was Natalie’s alias name [fake name.] And the time when she and Zoe got in a fight and they made a whole big deal out of letting Mrs. Clayton help with the book.

My least favorite part was practically the whole thing except for the non boring parts which were the parts I just told you and thats pretty much it.

Why the book didn’t interest me was because the people didn’t have anything exciting to say. The book would have been more interesting if it had funny quotes but there were some things that were funny, like when Natalie said, ”Zoe is not the fastest reader but she is very picky with the books and she liked this one.”

            I would rate this book a ½

Hatchet, By Gary Paulsen

In Gary Paulsen’s book Hatchet, a boy named Brian Robeson finds himself left alone to survive in the Canadian wilderness. Brian encounters  all sorts of wildlife and eats things that he never thought he would eat. Brian is also dreading a secret that isn’t helping him think about how he is going to survive. Later in the book he realizes that he needs to survive and nothing can be in his way.

I found the book ok not great, but that might just be because I am a scaredy cat. One of the reasons why I found the book ok, not great is because I found that the book had too much description; for example when Brian was eating Gary Paulsen was describing guts and muscles. Another reason I found the book ok, not great is that the main character is a kid just like me and it is scary to think about that happening to me or any of my friends.

My favorite part of the book is when Brian gets his head straight and tells himself he needs to survive. I like that part because it made me feel strong and powerful.

My  least favorite part of the book is when Brian first get to the Canadian wilderness because he is confused and very hurt both physically and mentally.

I recommend this book to people that like to be on the edge of their seats and held in suspense a lot when they are reading.

I give this book three out of five stars!

The Chocolate Touch, Patrick Skene Catling

The Chocolate Touch is about a boy that goes to a candy shop, and gets a piece of chocolate, and the next day everything he puts into his mouth turns to chocolate. But it gets worse when every thing his lip touches turns to chocolate.  How will he get rid of it ?

This turns into an adventure in his own neighborhood!

A good book and this book shares a good sense of humor.

The Enormous Egg, By Oliver Butterworth

The main character of this book is Nathan (Nate) Twitchell, he lives in Freedom, NH. He has a lot of chickens/hens, and one day one of his hens lays an enormous egg.  It turns out that it’s a dinosaur egg! He hatches and grows big so they take him to Washington D.C and a senator makes a bill for the dino to go. Who will get the bill, Senator Granderson or Nate?

I enjoyed this book because it keeps you on your toes waiting for the next thing to happen.

I would recommend this book to people who like dinosaurs and who like being on their toes. At one point of the book someone asks if he can turn the dinosaur into a suitcase. I would give this book 3 stars (***) because I’m not the biggest dino-fan.

The Tiger Rising, By Kate DiCamillo

My book is called The Tiger Rising by Kate DiCamillo. This book takes place in the misty Florida woods. The main characters in this book are Rob Horton and the tiger. The tiger is a character who does not show up a lot in the book because the tiger is mostly in Rob’s head. One important event is when Rob’s mother dies because when Rob’s mother die’s Rob’s mood and personality changed for the whole book. Another important event is when Rob meets a girl named Sistine Bailey on his first day of school. This is a important event because Sistine is helpful and gives Rob evidence in the whole book. I really enjoyed this book because I loved the description poetic words in the book. My favorite part of the book is when Rob meets the tiger because Rob says that he sees the tiger rising. I would recommend this book to somebody who likes poems and art because there is lots of poetic words and lots of art stuff in the book. For example there are  carvings of the tiger that they explain about.

I will rate this book four stars because I think the chapters were a little to short in this book but

any way it was a good book.

The Mouse and the Motorcycle, by Beverley Cleary

The Mouse and the Motorcycle is about a charming mouse named Ralph who lives in a hotel and a little boy named Keith who become friends over a toy motorcycle in the hotel in California. This peaceful story, toward the end transforms into an exciting adventure. an exciting part of the book is when Keith gives Ralph motorcycle. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes silly stories about friends who are an animal and a human. I liked this book and I hope you do too. I give this story five stars.

School Story, by Andrew Clements

School Story is about a girl named Natalie. She writes a book, her friend wants to publish it. It takes a few steps but she says yes. The only problem is that Natalie’s mom is a publisher. And Natalie wants her mom to publish it. But her mom doesn’t know it. So will she get her mom to publish her book or will some one else get the job? If you read this terrible book you will find out. The editor of this book made a bad decision to publish it. Now a bunch of kids will have to read it. I give this book a one star rating because it was terrible and it told you the whole thing at the beginning. I recommend this book to the “Society of Bad Books.” This book is like eating a bad pickle the whole way through. My favorite part of the book is when I closed it.

Frankly Frannie Principal For The Day, By AJ Stern

By Jemma

I would say the book Frankly Frannie Principal For The Day by AJ Stern was a very breathtaking book. It was like, what is going to happen next? Is she going to be principal !? I would recommend the book to people who don’t like as much adventure but a funny book with made up words and a very curious main character. I would rate the book 4 stars. My favorite part of the book is when she is putting her principal composition in her folder. My other favorite part which happens throughout the whole book is when she makes up words!

The Chocolate Touch, By Patrick Skene Catling

The title of my reading partnership book is The Chocolate Touch, by Patrick Skene Catling. The main character is John Midas and the book takes place far in his town. After John finds a mysterious coin, he buys a box of chocolate and everything he eats or touches his mouth, turns into chocolate. John starts to have problems with this. My favorite part is when the song from the play comes up in chapter eight, “Where the pools are bright and deep, Where the gray trout lies asleep, Up the river and over the lea, That’s the way for Billy and me….” I enjoyed this book, I would give it three stars on a scale of five stars because it wasn’t my favorite book. I would still recommend it, especially to people who like fun, fiction books.

Frankly Frannie: Principal for the day, By A.J Stern

Frankly Frannie is a hilarious book by AJ Stern. It’s a series about a girl who already has a résumé, business cards, and mustard packets (they’re so much more grown-up than ketchup). So why is it taking eleventeen hundred years for her to find work? Frannie goes on a different mission to find work in each book. In this book, Frannie’s school is having a competition. Whoever has the best composition gets to be the Principal for the day! Frannie is so excited! Who will win? I think people who like funny books should read this because it’s a really funny book and Frannie makes up a lot of funny words like excitified, pricipalish, and more. And if you read dark scary grim books like I do, this would be a book that you can relax on and laugh at. I would rate this book 4 stars, because even though it’s not the best book in the world, it’s good for some light reading and if you want a funny book to read, read Frankly Frannie: Principal for the Day!
