13 Gifts By Wendy Mass

13 Gifts is a wonderful book by Wendy Mass. It’s in a series of books, but you don’t have to read the first two books before you read this third book. In this book, a 12 year old girl (almost 13!) named Tara keeps moving, and it’s getting on her nerves. A girl her age should stay put and have friends; But not her. So, when she finally has a chance to prove herself popular, even if it means stealing the Principal’s lifesize stuffed goat (don’t ask) she should do it, right? Wrong. Her so called, “friends” abandon her and let’s just say the results include pepper spray in the eyes and a very angry principal. Her parents think that Tara needs to take a break from everything for a while, so they send her to Willow Falls, a mysterious little town where her Aunt and Uncle live with their 11 year old daughter that Tara’s never met before. But some pretty weird things start to happen in Willow Falls. What will happen? Read the book to find out! I would rate this book 6 out of 5 stars because it was AWESOME! You should read this book if you like mysteries, because this story is very mysterious.

Jake and Lilly, by Jerry Spinelli

Jake and Lilly are twins, they’re in middle school [fifth grade]. Every year on their birthdays they sleepwalk to the train station, that’s were they were born. That is something they always did together. But now they have to handle some problems, like Bump Stubbins, the arch enemie of Lilly. But other then Bump Stubbins Jake thinks Lilly and him are different, Lilly on the other hand does not think that, she thinks that they’re the same or she wants to think that. Jake is the perfect one who hates getting in trouble, Lilly loves it or just does not mind getting in trouble. “Jake and Lilly” is a really good book so I recommend it to people who like to read about two different perspectives.

The Three Investigators #5 an Ear For Danger

This book is about three kids Jupiter,Pete, and Bob who like to investigate things. This book is very good and exciting and may I ad a little bit scary and funny like when they meet this kid Brit  who is dyslexic (sees letters in the wrong order.) and jupe showed him a business card and he thought it said the three nivetsitagors  another exciting part was when they realized that they were on a  volcano. I give this book five stars.

Divergent By Veronica Roth

This book takes place in a future time period where there are factions. A faction is a group of people who believe or follow the same ideas. Here are some of the factions; Erudite the Intelligent, Abnegation the Selfless, Dauntless the Brave, Candor the Honest, and Amity the Peaceful.

The book starts out in a time of year when teenagers pick their factions. Beatris (the main character) wants to stay with her family in Abnegation but she is not selfless enough (a quality required to be in Abnegation) so she is not fit for that faction. Before the teenagers pick there factions they take a simulation test in their mind. Their brains are actually injected with serum for this test. The test is suppose to tell you what faction you are best suited for. When Beatris takes the test she gets a  result of 3 different factions she is suited for, which is rare. This is called being Divergent. After difficult thinking, she picks Dauntless and then the action begins!

Beatris then goes through a learning process of being Dauntless. Then she finds out secrets of factions that might change the world.

I really enjoyed this book because it was full of action.

I would recommend this book for ages 14 and up SO IF YOU’RE READING THIS REVIEW DON’T READ THE BOOK!

So thats how Marlowe see’s this  hope you enjoyed it.

The House On Mango Street, By Sandra Cisneros

The book The House On Mango Street is a book of short stories about a poor-ish girl named Esperanza, who has moved many times and her latest move was to Mango Street. She has no friends at first, but starts to make some as the stories go on. There is one girl in the Neighborhood who thinks she is related to the queen of France she is very wealthy and whenever people like Esperanza moves in she moves a little bit farther away from the neighborhood. There are many people who speak Spanish living on mango street even though it is a place in America. Esperanza dreams and imagines a lot because she knows that she is not living in a very  “wealthy” neighborhood. Esperanza feels that Mango Street is not the right place for her and hopes to have a house of her very own one day.

My favorite part of the book is when they were talking about a boy named Louie well one of his cousins stole a car and the kids didn’t know so when Louie’s cousin told everyone to get out of the car and when the police took him away the kids were just waving and saying see you later. That is my favorite part because it is to me at least laugh out loud moment.

My least favorite part of the book is the first story which is about when Esperanza first explains her and her life. I didn’t like that part because it is really sad for example she was giving many clues that she was poor. It was really sad.

I really liked the book because it is both funny sad and expressive in many ways. I also like the book because it tells me that I am more lucky than I think I am. Another reason I liked the book is how the author really used kid language to explain what is going on in a kids mind.

I recommend this book to people who like sad and funny life stories. I would give this book 5 out of 5 stars!

The Zombie Chasers, By John Kloepfer

The main character of this book is Zach. One day his town gets invaded by zombies.  The zombies try to make the humans into zombies by biting the humans, his friend thinks he is the “zombie expert”.  Zach’s sister (Zoe) gets bitten by the zombies and her friend Madison (Madison is Zoe’s friend) is the only one is the house besides Zach that is not a zombie.  Zach says that the only way to get out is through the laundry chute and to the car.   So Zach and Madison think that Zach’s friend Johnston Rice (who is called Rice) is the “zombie expert” and they go to pick him up so they can ‘destroy’ the zombies.  They have figured out the case that created the zombies in the first place. Sorry, it would be a spoiler if I told you what it was.

I would rate this book 5 stars because everything about it is so good.  I would recommend this book to people who like fiction and fiction survival.

Mary Poppins, By P.L Travers

My book was Mary Poppins. It was about a family named the banks who have a nanny named Mary Poppins. Mary Poppins And the children Michael, Jane, John and Barbara. Meet a angel from the sky, many talking animals and use a compass that helps you travel around the world and more. I would rate the book 4 and a half stars out of five stars because in my opinion sometimes there was a little too much description I like to get to the story because it is so interesting. I would reccomend this book to some one who does not like alot of comedy but a lot of adventure and magic. I loved it I hope you will like it to!

Museum Of Thieves, By Lian Tanner

The book I read is the Museum Thieves. It was very good and I liked it, it had a very rich tone that is very good to read when you’re tired. It also very action back book. It gets you off your chair and makes you want to read it more. It’s about a girl named Sophie and she runs away, after the government looks for her. She finds a museum, it’s called the museum of thieves. And in the museum there are some very strange people, and some very strange things. Sophie will test to get in the museum. Read this book if you want to find out figure if the government will find here. I give this book a five star rating. If you want to read it good for you if it’s not your type move along.

The Lighting Thief by Rick Riordan

The Lightning Thief

by Rick Riordan

My book is called the The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. It is the first of the Percy Jackson books.

The book is about Percy and his discovery that he is a half-blood, which means that he has a mortal mother but a god as a father. His mom died when they were fighting a monster. Before his mom died she told him to go over the hill called Half-blood Hill and find the strawberry farm and go to the house there you will find safety. That is what Percy did. When he got there he finds out his dad is Poseidon, the god of the sea!

My favorite part is when they are at the waterbed store and Percy’s best friends are tied up. He rescues them by using his sword that is also a ballpoint pen.

I would rate this book 5 stars because it really drags you into the story. I would recommend this book to a person who likes Harry Potter because it is full of amazing adventures. This book really is a great book!

The Talent Show

The Talent Show

by Dan  Gutman

(Benjamin Winokur-Applebaum)

This winter break I read a book called  The Talent Show  by Dan Gutman.  I think he writes the best books ever because he knows the best topics such as a kid who becomes president and a boy solving a war with video games!  So the book that I am going to tell you about-The Talent Show- is written by that great author, Dan Gutman!

The book The Talent Show takes place in Cape Bluff, Kansas out on  the  prairie  where  there  are  many  different  hazards  such  as tornados. A big tornado hits the town and the book lists every character and what they are doing when the tornado hits in the very beginning of the book. (first chapter)  After the tornado was finished doing its stuff the library was flooded and houses were lifted clean off their foundations and cars were found up to 24 miles away!  But in a town meeting the new principal had the idea for a  talent show to raise money  for the library and if extra, for the town!  But they overcame many problems such as printing advertisements, youtube videos for people to watch, lighting, tools in case another tornado hit, a prize, the judges, the people to run the show and the place to have the talent show.  Something amazing is that Cape Bluff has one very important celebrity but can he get here from Los Angeles? Somehow they figure it all out, but one thing that and one problem remain and that is what the book is all about.
