I Funny by James Patterson

The book I will be talking about today is called “I Funny.” It takes place in high school in the present. The main character’s name is Jamie Grimm who enters a comedy contest in NYC. He is really excited to be in the contest.

Jamie is very funny, nervous from stage fright and is “old-school” as you can probably tell by the book cover with the mustache and glasses and fuzzy eyebrows. Every single time Jamie performs, he is sweating so much that his clothes become wet. In the book he does a lot of research on old comedians and their work. He is also funny for that same reason. Here is one of his jokes: “So a woman and her baby walked into a bus. And the bus driver said ‘Man, that’s one ugly baby!’ So the mom’s all angry and grumpy and says to the man next to her ‘That bus driver insulted me!’ So the man said ‘Go tell him that. I will hold the monkey.’” Pretty funny right?

Jamie’s family died in an car accident but he survived with an injury to his butt. Jamie’s injuries have left him in a wheelchair though. He lives with his aunt and uncle. They are really very boring! They don’t laugh at all until the middle of the book.

My rating is ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ because it really cracked me up. To be honest, this is probably one of the most funniest books I have ever read. It is amazing and I highly recommend it.

Who was Daniel Boone

¨Who was Daniel Boone¨

by Sydelle Kramer

Daniel Boone killed a bear when he was sixteen. I learned this in the book “Who was Daniel Boone.” This book is written by Sydelle Kramer and takes place from 1734 to 1820. The setting is mostly in the woods and nature. Boone likes company and not being alone. Boone had a very sad life. Almost all of his kids died. When he, his son, his wife and many more relatives were trying to get to Kansas, his son and other relatives went to get supplies. They did not return. The skeletons of all of the relatives who went with his son were found later.

Boone is determined, strong and pays attention to things that other people may not see. For example, when his daughter was captured by the Shawnee and the Cherokee, she made a trail for people to see but nobody saw it except for Boone. He was determined because when he first went to Kansas to hunt game,  (game is the same thing as animals) all of his things were taken and he was told to go back to his town and stay there – but he did not since there was better game in Kansas. He was strong and had skill because when he was 16 he killed his first bear; which requires the skill to find and aim for the heart and the strength not to panic and miss.

I think a couple of key things were important to Boone’s development. Being alone made Boone become a different person. People usually take companionship and family around them for granted but when all of Boone’s family either left him or died, he realised how much it meant to have family around. Killing his first bear was also important because it triggered his “hidden potential.” After he killed his first bear he was going on long hunts and killing a lot of game (although he could not use everything because it was to heavy).

In conclusion, I think the book was great and had lots of action and adventure. I like this genre so this was a great read for me. I thought it was interesting when the Indians had to test if Boone was fit to be one of them. The test was very dangerous but a little silly if you ask me. A group of Indians hit the one who is trying to get to the checkpoint with sticks. That person was Boone. He passed the test on his first try. My rating is 4 and a half stars. I would recommend it if you like action and adventure. There are other “who was” books so you can check them out too!

Who Was Leonardo da Vinci by Roberta Edwards

The book I read was “Who was Leonardo da Vinci?” by Roberta Edwards. It takes place between 1452 and 1519 in Italy with Leonardo as the main character. Leonardo was a real artist in the time of 1452 and 1519. Leonardo’s main problem was that he had great inventions and ideas, but not a lot of them worked. For example, his pair of wings did not turn out successfully.

Leonardo was very creative. He drew different things he wanted to create like his pairs of wings. He liked to He liked to make things in his free time. Some of these were very complex so you had to be intelligent to make them as well as to use them. Leonardo chose to adopt a little child named Giacomo, whom he spoiled to no end. I bet Leonardo’s life would have been different if that had not happened. Since Leonardo was spoiling him he probably spent some money for him and maybe if he did not use that money  he could’ve have put it to good use. The book stated that “Leonardo was not the only popular artist around that time. There were two others. Their names were Raphael and Michelangelo.” Michelangelo and Leonardo really did not like each other but on the other hand, Raphael was a big fan of Leonardo.
I really liked this book for its inventions. I also liked the story and the main character. I highly recommend this book because it is really interesting and hard to put down once started. The book also appeals to people who enjoy art and its history. My rating is 4 and a half stars.

SPY SCHOOL

Spy School by Stuart Gibbs

NYC- Benjamin Ripley was attacked when he was going to school. Benjamin frantically dashed for the door to the school while Alexander Hale covered him. When he got inside the school he found a companion and made a discovery. His discovery was the school was under attack by 41 heavily armed people! He should’ve kept up his guard up because he was attack by a masked person.

That person was actually his companion. Her name was Erica. She asked Ben if knew how to handle a gun and he said, “I can handle my cousin’s BB gun well.” Erica sighed heavily and gave Benjamin a taser and taught him how to use it. Ben said, “How am I supposed to defend myself with a taser?” She responded only with “Welcome to Spy School.”

They snuck up the staircase but while they were in the middle of walking up the stairs, a black shadow emerged from the dark gloominess. Erica blocked off the shadow and she told Ben to go to the principal’s office and he said he would.

Another shadow emerged. Ben picked up a book and instantly calculated what angle he had to throw the book and hit the shadow in the head and continued to run to the office. He ran up the stairs into the office and locked the door.

As soon as he locked the door, six more shadows came with flashlights. He fried the computer with his taser and turned the lights out. Ben prepared to surrender to the attackers but accidentally bumped the door and made it unlock and all flashlights turned towards the sound he made. The lights turned on and the attackers knocked down the door. Ben curled up into a little ball.

At the end of the day it was only a survival test to see if he was qualified to be a spy. “I was so nervous that I would get kidnapped!” Benjamin Ripley said. Erica Hale was actually one of the principals of the test! She was not afraid of the 41 heavily armed people, even if it had been a real life situation.
