Percy Jackson and The Battle of The Labyrinth

I read Percy Jackson and the Battle of the Labyrinth by Rick Riordan. I chose this scene because I felt like in this book battles mostly happen the forest against his enemy Luke so I did that. I also thought Percy usually wins a lot anyways so I put him next to a river ( which gives him an advantage since he’s son of the sea god.) Also because it feels like it would be major scene in the whole series.

The Mouse And The Motorcycle by Beverly Cleary

Zach

MotorcycleI read The Mouse and The Motorcycle and that title made me think those two things don’t go well together, so I wondered what it could possibly be about. This book was by Beverly Cleary who used to be a bad reader until third grade when she caught up with everyone else. So what I don’t get is why she chose to be an author if she wasn’t such a good reader until third grade. This book is part of a series called Ralph and the Motorcycle. There is a mouse named Ralph and a boy named Keith in the story. The Mouse and The Motorcycle took place in a rundown hotel in California, but it does not say what the time period is but it is probably modern times.

This story was about a little mouse named Ralph who lived in a knothole in one of the rooms of the hotel. Ralph is a very big risk taker because once Ralph went out on a dangerous mission to help Keith that involved the lower floor. He’s also very adventurous because when he grows up he wants to explore the whole hotel. Ralph never worries because he wants to go down on a lower floor even though he knows it’s dangerous. Then a boy named Keith stayed at the hotel with his parents and brought along a little toy motorcycle. Ralph noticed it and tried to ride it but ended riding it into the trashcan. Keith noticed them both in the trashcan and took them both out. Keith said hello to the mouse and Ralph said hello right back, which for some reason did not surprise Keith even though mice usually can’t talk. Ralph said that his motorcycle did not work but Keith showed him it did and he let Ralph ride it, which started a good friendship. In the story Ralph does learn that being greedy can sometimes wind you up in a laundry basket and end up almost losing a friend. One time Ralph had to help Keith get an aspirin since he was sick so Ralph went down to the bottom floor to find one. He went into a room with some college kids sleeping and found one and used an ambulance that Keith had as a toy, Ralph got it in the ambulance and drove it back up. Ralph decided to be greedy. He was greedy because he wanted the motorcycle all to himself. His greediness almost ended

up with him losing the motorcycle and a friendship which almost changed the book completely.

I liked this book because I was wondering how they could of possibly put a mouse and a motorcycle together but they put it together so that it made perfect sense to me. One other thing that I liked was that Keith and Ralph became really good friends. I recommend this book if you like adventures and fiction. A connection I have is that me and Ralph both like adventures.

I rate this book four stars.

Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters, by Rick Riordan

searchI read Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan. I enjoyed the first book, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, so I read the second one in the Percy Jackson series. The main character is Percy Jackson. The problem in my story concerns a boy named Luke, who used to be a friend of Percy’s but then betrayed him. Luke poisoned the tree that used to be Talia the daughter of Zeus. That tree would put a magical shield around the camp to protect it from monsters. Now that it was poisoned it could no longer protect the camp. The story mostly took place in part of an ocean called the Sea of Monsters in the year 2013.

He is also really brave and likes adventures because he was willing to go on a quest that no man has ever returned from. Percy is also athletic because he loves to do flips and to practice every drill there is at camp. One of the hardest drills is a rock climbing wall that is very high and squirts out burning hot lava.

Percy did some interesting things throughout the story including going on a ferry that had Luke and some monsters on it. Another event that was interesting was a horse race with two people in a carriage that they had to design and build. A big decision that Percy made was to battle one of his brothers – a big ugly cyclops that had killed all of the people that have entered his island . But not someone named Jason who slashed his sword in his one eye and has half blinded the cyclops.

I like this book because it has a lot of fighting and adventure. My favorite fight was when Percy and Annabeth fight the cyclops and Annabeth puts on a cap that turns her invisible. Annabeth called out ”HEY LOOK OVER HERE REMEMBER ME! IT’S NOBODY.” And the cyclops said “No not nobody I remember you.” That is what Jason called him self.

I think the genre of the book is adventure, action, and mystery. I would recommend this book if you like battles. Also if you like Greek mythology. I would rate this book five stars.

The Lightning Thief, By Rick Riordan

Screen Shot 2015-12-10 at 10.43.07 AMI read a book called Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. The mystery in the story is that Percy Jackson [the main character] is blamed for stealing a weapon called the lightning bolt. The lightning bolt is owned by Zeus,[ god of the skies]. The book takes place in New York City and the Underworld.

The lightning bolt was stolen by Luke. Then Luke told Ares[god of war] about his dreams of Kronos (father of all gods) and that there would be a war between the gods if the lightning bolt was not returned in 10 days. Ares wanted there to be a war considering he’s the god of war. So he took the lightning bolt off Luke’s hands. Ares and Percy started to have the same dreams of Kronos; Ares listened to Kronos but Percy refused.

So then Percy and his friends Annabeth (daughter of Athena) and Grover get sent on a quest to retrieve the lightning bolt. On their way to retrieve the lightning bolt Percy, Annabeth, and Grover face some of the worst monsters possible.

I rate this book five stars!
