The Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan.

The name of this book is The Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan. There are five main characters: Leo, Jason, Nico, Piper, and Reyna. The main problem is that the giants try to wake Gaea the earth goddess from sleep. To wake Gaea they need Percy and Annabeth’s blood.

The thing that changed the direction of the story was when Percy and Annabeth lead  the attack on Athens. It was a hard decision but as Annabeth says “it’s the most logical choice.”  The giants wake Gaea, but I will not reveal the rest.

I enjoyed this book a lot like when Reyna faced Orion and fought him. I also liked when the gods came to help the seven demigods defeat the giants and when Jason and Zeus fought Porphyrion the king of the giants.  I think that if you like action and adventure you will  like this book. I give this book four stars.

George Washington’s Socks A Time Travel Adventure By Elvira Woodruff

imgresI read a book called George Washington’s Socks, by Elvira Woodruff. I don’t know if this is in a series or not but Elvira Woodruff wrote other books. The main character’s name is Matt. There are four other main characters, Q, Tony, Hooter, and Katie. The setting is in Nebraska and  New Jersey. The time is the 20th and 18th centuries. One night on their first club camp out, they were reading a book about George Washington when he crossed the Delaware River. They didn’t really feel that cool so they wanted an adventure. There was a lake near where they were camping so Q, Tony, Hooter, Matt, and Katie all camped out by the lake. When they got to the lake they saw a boat. Now just think of this, the name of the boat is Emit Levart, if you look closely you’ll see it. Read the title.

 

One thing I think is important to know is when the kids cross the Delaware river  they are wearing 20th century clothes. Think of how strange it would be to be a soldier seeing them. Another thing that I think is important to know is that when they time travelled  they came back at sun rise so the parents didn’t know what had happened. Except when Katie the little sister told her parents what happened the past night. One adjective that I thought goes well with Matt is courage. An example was when Matt was riding Blackjack the horse through the dark woods. Another adjective is bravery. An example was when Matt pick up the muskets to tried to scare the Hessians. He, Hooter, and Tony all failed. The last adjective is confident. The example was when Tony got mad that they could not get home but Matt always said “We will get home, I promise.”

I liked this book because there is always a problem. You can or can’t guess what what the next thing is going to be. I recommend this book to people that like adventures. Also to people that like time travel. This book reminds me of a book we read last year called “The Magic Tunnel.” That book was also about time travelling. But The Magic Tunnel was when the English took over New Amsterdam. I rate this book five stars. *****

Diary of a Wimpy Kid 6 Cabin Fever by Jeff Kinney

Book-6-diary-of-a-wimpy-kid-23499466-712-1072Diary of a Wimpy Kid 6 Cabin Fever by Jeff Kinney is in the series Diary of a Wimpy Kid. The main character’s name is Gregory, Greg for short. The book is mainly about a kid that is sort of a jerk . He only has one friend and he leads his friend into trouble. He tries to have a good life but its hard when he has two brothers. The story takes place at Christmas time in his town. 

One part I liked was when Greg wrote a letter asking for money and put it on the Giving Tree at his church.  This was sneaky because the Giving Tree was for people in need. Another part was when Greg and his friend Rowley put up posters for their Holiday Bazaar. The paint on the posters blurred when it rained. So they took the posters off. It smeared on the wall of the school and they ran away before they got caught. The next day it was in the newspaper. “Vandals deface middle school.” I think Greg is mischievous. An example of this is when he had a card for a grocery store that let him have a cupcake if he was 8 or younger. But one time he kept eating cupcakes when he was 9 or older. Greg is also often  annoyed like when his brother Many changed the password of his favorite video game. He also was annoyed when his mom wrote her own signature when it was supposed to be from an author.  Greg is not shy but he is easily embarrassed. One time when he was young he was embarrassed  because he didn’t know you lock the door to the bathroom. So he got walked in on. Another time was when he did a bad thing and the next thing he realized that the bad thing was on the news.

 

I liked this book because it is not hard to read but there are some words where I had to stop and think. I would recommend this book to people that like “kids life” books. I would also recommend this book to people that read other Diary of a Wimpy Kid books, or want to read Diary of a Wimpy Kid books. This book reminds me of Big Nate because it has the same kind of story. They both think they’re the most popular kid, but I don’t think that. I give this book three stars.

Lost! A Dog Called Bear By Wendy Orr

Screen Shot 2015-01-05 at 12.19.19 PMI read a book called Lost! A Dog Called Bear by Wendy Orr. This book is not in a series (at least I don’t think it is). The main characters names are Logen, Bear and Hannah. The book is mainly about a kid who lost a dog named Bear. The setting of the book is on a farm and in a town. I think the time is around the present because it doesn’t seem like the past or the future.

I thought it was interesting that the author put the things that the characters liked so you get to know them. Ex: what Bear liked most more than anything in the word is Logen. I also thought it was interesting that there are different point of views for each character. Like when the author put dog prints when changing the point of views. Hannah is hopeful. Like when she said “I hope your family comes soon.” Hannah has courage like when she said “Can we go there?“ Every time they passed Rainbow Street Shelter. Hannah loves dogs. Like when the book said what Hannah liked more than anything was a dog.

I liked this book because it’s exciting that a dog gets lost. I also liked this book because I like animals. I would recommend this book to people that like animals because it is about a dog. I would also recommend this book to people that like happy endings. I think this book is like 8 below, the movie because there is a boy or man that lost a dog or dogs then finds them. I give this book five stars.

My Life as a Stuntboy by Janet Tashjian

imgresMy Life as a Stuntboy is by Janet Tashjian. The series is My Life series. The main character’s name is Derek Fallon, who gets to be a skateboard stunt-boy in a movie about a kid that runs away from danger.  The book takes place in California.

An important thing in my book is Derek got a part in a movie but his friend didn’t. So his friend got mad. Derek also has a hard time reading. But he does not know that one time when he had a tutor come to his house he was filmed by his best friend Matt. Matt put the film on youtube because he was mad at Derek. Another important thing in the book was before Derek got the part in the movie he got a monkey! He was really brave when his monkey got stolen by a kid in school. The kid in school put him in the top of his garage on the fifth shelf and Derek got him! Derek is not that smart. He left his monkey in his room with his toys, and his monkey ate them. Derek is normal. Like most kids he is excited to be in a movie because he does not get to be in a movie every day.

I did like this book because of the monkey. Especially when Derek’s family found out they could keep his monkey. I also like when the author drew pictures of new vocabulary words that some people might not know. I would recommend this book to people that like easy ways to figure out hard words. This book reminds me of Diary of a Wimpy Kid because it’s the same author. I give this book five stars.
