We Are Not Eaten By Yaks is part of a series called An Accidental Adventure. The book takes place in China or Japan in the early 21st century. It’s a mind blowing adventure about two kids named Oliver and Celia. They’re both eleven years old and Celia’s older by one minute and 47 seconds. Their parents are explorers and worked at The Explorers Club. They would find and look for magical and mythical and unknown things. The thing about Oliver and Celia is that their favorite thing to do is watch TV. They liked television more than anything else in the world. They would watch for hours and hours without even a budge. But Oliver and Celia only wanted one thing in life… cable. When Oliver and Celia were about six or seven, Oliver and Celia’s mom got lost trying trying to find the lost tablets of Alexandria and sort of Shangri-La. Two mythical and magical places. Oliver and Celia’s dad has an arch enemy, Sir Edmund. One day at a discovery festival, a person came in who somehow found a piece of paper that Celia and Oliver’s mom wrote close to where people say Shangri-La and the lost tablets of Alexandria are. Then Sir Edmund made a bet with Oliver and Celia’s dad to find the lost tablets. If Oliver, Celia and their dad found the lost tablets, they would get cable. If they didn’t find the lost tablets, Oliver and Celia’s dad would get expelled from the explorers club and Oliver and Celia would have to work as slaves to Sir Edmund on weekends and breaks.

Oliver and Celia have the same personality. They’re smart. In the book, there are these poison witches that have a set of TVs. They don’t know what’s on TV but it makes no sense. They’re powerful witches and they want to watch TV but they can’t. Anyway, the witches poisoned Oliver and Celia’s dad and there were only five days for their father to live. So on the last day, Celia and Oliver gave the witches a TV guide for their father. A TV guide for a life at stake. It’s such a wonderful moment I cried. But that shows smartness. Celia and Oliver are glued to the TV. They once both watched Love at 30,000 feet for 54 hours straight. They’re weird. Their parents are explorers but they are (sort of want to be) the opposite. I guess it doesn’t run in the blood.

One weird part of the book was when Oliver and Celia made a parachute tied to a lifeboat to save them and their father. That was weird because Celia and Oliver hate adventures and what they did was very adventurous. Another weird part of the book was when the poison witches traded the TV guide for Oliver and Celia’s father’s life. I don’t think poison witches are supposed to like TV. Lastly, it’s weird that Oliver and Celia hate adventures. Their parents are famous adventurers. Like I said, I guess it doesn’t run through the blood. After when Celia said that Sir Edmund was going to kill their father, Oliver mumbled under his breath to his father, “can we get cable now?”. That means Oliver is a greedy kid. Just because somebody spreads a rumor that might save your life doesn’t mean you give them something right away.

I loved We Are Not Eaten By Yaks. It’s funny. It’s funny because there are odd things in the book (think of the odd part as funny-odd). It’s a mystery. It’s a mystery because you don’t know if Oliver and Celia’s mom lived or died and there’s a bunch of other mysterious stuff. There’s adventure. There’s adventure because you could tell by the name of the series that it’s an adventure story. It’s fantasy. It’s fantasy because there are poison witches and yeti’s and… I shouldn’t spoil the book anymore. I don’t want to spoil the book.There’s survival. Oliver and Celia have to survive a 38,000 foot drop from an airplane and there are a bunch of other survival stuff. The book reminds me of the books by Rick Riordan. It reminds me of them because We Are Not Eaten By Yaks is a mystery, adventure, survival and magic book just like the Rick Riordan books. I rate this book five out of five stars.
