Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamilo

WinnDixie1

Winn-Dixie is very smart for a dog I think, because when Opal pretended that Winn-Dixie was her dog, Winn-Dixie played along.

Winn-Dixie was also very well behaved, because when Opal scrubbed Winn-Dixie down he stayed put. Opal said that he could tell that Winn-Dixie didn’t like it by his facial expressions. But he’s not very patient for example Winn-Dixie’s problem is that he isn’t staying still in the park outside of the preacher’s church. So he thinks that the preacher might not allow Opal to keep Winn-Dixie. So dogs aren’t allowed in Opal’s dad’s church. So Winn-dixie has to wait outside (kids aren’t allowed to be in this park with R.V.’s but they made an exception to Opal for three reasons 1. She is very responsible 2. She is very trustworthy and 3. Her dads the priest of the church on the park)

One time Winn-Dixie saw a mouse in the church, so he did what any other dog would do ; he chased it… but this was in  the church so of course it distracted everybody in the church who were praying Winn-dixie is hoping that she can stay with the preacher and Opal because he is really having a good time with opal (aside from waiting outside of the church.)

I really enjoyed this book because it grasps you in the beginning with scary, sad, and exciting moments. Like in the grocery store when Opals trying to save Winn-Dixie from the dog pound. And when Opal and Winn-Dixie are trying to get the preacher to like Winn-Dixie,it takes a long time for him to make his decision. Also when there is a thunder storm and Winn-dixie gets super scared and its really dramatic.

If you like exciting and gripping books Because of Winn-Dixie is for you!

And its really modern. And doesn’t give you a lot of information so its making you think a bit too!

I rate this book :

****

because there are some sad parts that I don’t like but………. otherwise its AMAZING!!!

Poppy by Avi

Poppy_Book_Cover

I read Poppy by Avi. The main characters are Poppy and Mr. Ocax. Poppy is a mouse and Mr. Ocax is an owl. The main problem is that the mouse population is growing and there isn’t enough food to feed them all. They have to move to a place with more food but Mr.Ocax won’t let them move. It takes place in the woods.

At the beginning of the story, one day Poppy and her boyfriend Ragweed go to Bannock Hill because Ragweed thought that it would be romantic if he asked Poppy to marry him on Bannock Hill. Then Mr. Ocax flies down and eats  Ragweed up and Poppy feels really sad. After that Mr. Ocax wants to eat Poppy but Poppy saves herself and only gets a little scratch on her forehead. Poppy makes a big decision to go through Dimwood Forest all by herself. Mr. Ocax made the mice think that he is the boss and he protects them from porcupines but. Then Poppy figures out that he’s lying and that he’s the one afraid of porcupines and porcupines are vegetarian. He doesn’t want them to move because then he will lose his food.

I enjoyed this book because sometimes it leaves you at a cliffhanger when you just want to read more and find out what’s going to happen. I also think it is fun when the animals are talking. I also really enjoyed this book because it has a lot of feeling at the end of the book. I would recommend this book to people who like books about animals or books that are a little scary or people who like mysteries. I rate this book 4 stars out of five stars.

Invisible Inkling by Emily Jenkins

014

The book I read was Invisible Inkling, it’s by Emily Jenkins. The main character’s are Hank and Inkling. A problem is that Inkling is invisible and it’s hard to see what he’s up to and it’s hard to find him. Inkling goes CRAZY when a pumpkin is around. They are in Brooklyn, NY.

Nadia (his big sister) carves these pumpkins that are really good. She made them for a festival. Inkling ate all of these pumpkins in the night. Hank wakes up and tries to find him because he made a mess eating the pumpkins, but its hard because he is invisible. His mom walks in and thinks it’s Hank but it was actually Inkling. Hank doesn’t want to tell mom about Inkling so he lies and says it was him so he has to clean it all up (it was a HUGE mess). Hank has to lie a lot because he doesn’t want to let anybody know about Inkling. If somebody finds out and tells the scientists, they will know and bring Inkling to a lab and find out why he’s Invisible. I bet that is hard.

I really like this book because it is funny, exciting and interesting! I recommend this book to people who don’t really like books with lots of action like Percy Jackson and Harry Potter. I give this book a 4 ½ (5 is the best).

Wish You Were Erye by Heather Vogel Fredrick

  13406413

I read Wish You Were Erye by Heather Vogel Fredrick, it is in a series called the Mother Daughter Book Club. The main character is a girl named Megan Wong. Megan’s mom and Gigi (Grandma) adopted a French girl named Sophie who seems stuck up. Megan’s mom and Gigi are going out of their way to comfort her but Megan is really jealous so she plays pranks on Sophie trying to get her to want to leave. Megan usually goes to her house in Concord, Connecticut but here are other places she also goes: Her friend’s houses, Paris, New York City, hockey rinks and sometimes to a hill in Concord to go sledding.

Megan wants everything to go back to normal and for Sophie to go away so her parents will pay attention to her. Megan gets a little kitty for her birthday and names it Coco but the kitty likes Sophie better than Megan. Megan’s friend named Emma has a boyfriend named Stewart but it looks like Sophie is stealing him away from Emma. It’s not just Stewart who she is stealing, it’s all the boys at school so Megan does everything possible to make Sophie’s life miserable in Concord, so she will be humiliated. Megan’s Gigi got engaged to Sophie’s grandpa so Megan and Sophie have to become sort of step sisters and be related so they have to work some things out.

I really enjoyed reading this book and the whole series because I can relate to a lot of things that happen in the series. Heather is really good at making you want to know more when you put the book down. Megan’s friends all support each other really well. I would really recommend this book to people who like to read books about things that could happen in real life because these places in the book are real and the books they read are real books. It is Realistic Fiction. I would give this book a 4 star rating.

The Blood Of Olympus by Rick Riordan

Blood-of-Olympus-feature-image

My book is called The Blood of Olympus. The author is Rick Riordan. The main characters are Piper, Jason, Leo, Percy, Annabeth, Hazel, Reyna, Nico, Frank, and Coach Hedge.  The main characters are trying to keep Gaea (the evil person) from waking.

The book takes place in different places at different times. I don’t know when this book was happening.  Some of the places are: Greece, Delphi, and Long Island. The Roman and Greek camps are fighting each other on Long Island.

The plot is to wake Gaea and take over the world. Gaea is the earth goddess.  By waking Gaea they are waking a primordial goddess. Gaea is a primordial goddess who wants to take over the world. The Giants (Gaea’s children) are trying to wake Gaea.  The Giants are Gaea’s children. Gaea has 2 groups of children, The Titans, and the Giants. Gaea favors the Giants over the Titans. The Titans are annoyed at the giants and Gaea. The Titans lost their leader Kronos.

The main characters (the group of demigods) make a big decision by letting Reyna take the statue of Athena to Camp Half -Blood.  Reyna is Roman which means they won’t trust her as much (they are Greeks).  It is a big decision because Reyna might betray them.

The main characters are trying to prevent that by destroying the Giants who are trying to wake Gaea.  The problem is that if Gaea wakes she will be nearly impossible to destroy. Also, Giants are immortals and only a god and a demigod working together can destroy one. And if they destroy one it is only temporary until the Giant will revive.

I enjoyed the book because of the intense moments. For example “the Giants had gotten the blood they need to awake Gaea and the ritual was ending.”  “Gaea was destroying the camps by sinking demigods into endless pits.”  “The demigods and satyrs were surrounded by  monsters.”  I would recommend this book to people who like stuff that is intense and fantasy because this book is very intense and has fantasy . I would give this book five stars. I couldn’t really stop reading it.

The Blood of Olympus by Rick Riorden

The book I read is called The Blood of Olympus, it’s by Rick Riordan. There are 7 main characters and their names are: Percy, Frank, Jason, Leo, Annabeth, Piper, and Hazel and they are all demigods.  Piper is daughter of Aphrodite, Frank is son of Ares, Annabeth daughter of Athena, Hazel is daughter of Hades, Leo is son of Hephaestus, Percy is son of Poseidon, and Jason is son of Zeus.

A demigod is someone who has one godly parent and one mortal parent. However there is a problem, Gaea, the earth goddess is rising and she wants revenge on the gods by destroying the world! All this action happens in Athens the ancient land of Athena.

The plot of the story is the 7 demigods have to go on a quest to stop the war with Gaea. In the books before this one the demigods killed the titans. The titans are Gaea’s sons so Gaea went mad and she tried to kill everyone especially the gods. Gaea also leads all the monsters so she sends monsters to stall the demigods so she can have time to rise and awake. Once she sent a whole army of Cyclops to slow them down only for about a minute or so. The demigods received a prophecy that one demigod would die so they had to use up some of their time getting a potion so they can bring him or her back to life! I love this book so much because it’s by my favorite author Rick Riordan, also it’s about mythology and mythical stuff is really cool. Last but not least it’s a long read and it’s not a small book that you can read in like a few minutes. It feels like you accomplished something when you finish it. I recommend this book to anyone who likes books about mythology or adventure or both.

States And Capitals by Dan Green

msqxG7fyqxJ3LNKedItGYpQI am reading a book called States And Capitals by Dan Green. It is about the States in America. The characters are the States and they are trying to inform the reader about themselves. They are cute and funny. Whenever the book is talking about the State, it uses “I” instead of “it”.  My favorite example is when Massachusetts said, “I made the first chocolate chip cookies.” I like that because it makes learning fun. Thinking about the States as characters is fun, but it can also be annoying.

This book is good for kids who love to learn and figure out things.  While there is no big plot, it has a lot of information, and a lot of good stories so there are a lot of little plots. It made me laugh when Texas said, “In April we celebrate Eeyore  from Winnie the Pooh’s birthday.” I  was surprised to find out that California had 37,254,000 people. I did not know a lot about all of the States, but I want to learn even more about them while reading this book.

I enjoyed this book for various reasons.  First, it is good for me because it is a Basher Book and I have read Basher Books before and they help me learn. Also, this book can help me, and other kids, with other subjects like history (because it tells you the history behind that State), geography and even a little science. Finally, it has funny jokes so it’s not boring, which I think is the most important thing about a book for kids. But the best part is that for me, it’s a book that I don’t read too fast or too slow, and I really like it. I really recommend this five-star book.

Always Abigail by Nancy J. Cavanugh

 AlwaysAbigail

The book I’m reading is called Always Abigail. The Author is Nancy J. Cavanaugh. The author lives in Florida with her husband and daughter. The main characters in this book are Abigail and Gabby. The problem is Abigail wants to be popular but Gabby is the school’s biggest outcast, but she is really nice to Abigail. This is a problem because everyone makes fun of Gabby and if Abigail hangs out with her, people might make fun of Abigail too.

This book takes place at a school. Something big that happens is Abigail falls into a BIG mud puddle when she was going to the school bus (because they had a lot of rain lately) and everyone was laughing at her including two girls who Abigail thought were her friends. But Gabby didn’t laugh, and helped her up. The moral of the story is don’t judge a book by it’s cover because the cheerleaders were nice to her until she wasn’t a cheerleader.

I really liked the book and it had a saying I also really liked: When life gives you lemons don’t pucker and pout, make lemonade and laugh out loud. I’d give this book five stars.
