The Lighting Thief by Rick Riordan

The Lightning Thief

by Rick Riordan

My book is called the The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. It is the first of the Percy Jackson books.

The book is about Percy and his discovery that he is a half-blood, which means that he has a mortal mother but a god as a father. His mom died when they were fighting a monster. Before his mom died she told him to go over the hill called Half-blood Hill and find the strawberry farm and go to the house there you will find safety. That is what Percy did. When he got there he finds out his dad is Poseidon, the god of the sea!

My favorite part is when they are at the waterbed store and Percy’s best friends are tied up. He rescues them by using his sword that is also a ballpoint pen.

I would rate this book 5 stars because it really drags you into the story. I would recommend this book to a person who likes Harry Potter because it is full of amazing adventures. This book really is a great book!

The Talent Show

The Talent Show

by Dan  Gutman

(Benjamin Winokur-Applebaum)

This winter break I read a book called  The Talent Show  by Dan Gutman.  I think he writes the best books ever because he knows the best topics such as a kid who becomes president and a boy solving a war with video games!  So the book that I am going to tell you about-The Talent Show- is written by that great author, Dan Gutman!

The book The Talent Show takes place in Cape Bluff, Kansas out on  the  prairie  where  there  are  many  different  hazards  such  as tornados. A big tornado hits the town and the book lists every character and what they are doing when the tornado hits in the very beginning of the book. (first chapter)  After the tornado was finished doing its stuff the library was flooded and houses were lifted clean off their foundations and cars were found up to 24 miles away!  But in a town meeting the new principal had the idea for a  talent show to raise money  for the library and if extra, for the town!  But they overcame many problems such as printing advertisements, youtube videos for people to watch, lighting, tools in case another tornado hit, a prize, the judges, the people to run the show and the place to have the talent show.  Something amazing is that Cape Bluff has one very important celebrity but can he get here from Los Angeles? Somehow they figure it all out, but one thing that and one problem remain and that is what the book is all about.

The Talent Show

the Christmas Genie by Dan Gutman

I read the book the CHRISTMAS GENIE by Dan Gutman. The main character is Chase. The setting of my book is in the present and in a school. In the book a meteorite crashes into Mrs. Walters’ class. A genie comes out from the meteorite and Chase and his classmates get one wish! I liked the book because the ending was very surprising.  My favorite part of the book was when someone wishes for a truck full of candy! Elizabeth and Alyssa don’t want the candy because they said that you would get obese and diabetes if you ate all the candy. I recommend this book for kids who like fiction because the story is fiction and they would enjoy it. I rate this book *** stars.

Mary on a Horseback by Rosemary Wells.

Mary on a  horseback is a very sad story and lots of people dye. It is based on a real person named Mary who works at a hospital that only has three doctors. If you like stories where history happens, then this is a good book for you! I think this book is good for Third and Fourth grade. I would rate this book 4 ½ stars!

The School for Good and Evil by Soman Chainani

There is a place called The School for Good and Evil. Every four years two kids get kidnapped and one kid get placed into a school for good and the other kid gets placed into the school for evil.  A girl named Sophie thinks that when she gets kidnapped she will be placed into the school for good and Sophie’s best friend Agatha thinks that she will be placed into the school for evil because Agatha never wants to be around so many people and she lives in a very old grave yard. Sophie is always happy and lives in a little town called Gavaldon.

The night Sophie and Agatha get kidnapped Sophie gets placed into the school for evil and Agatha gets placed into the school for good. Now all Agatha wants to do is go home while Sophie is trying to find the school manager so they can be in the schools they think that they were meant to be in. After a few days Agatha gets a sheet of paper that says on it, Agatha School for Good first year. Sophie soon gets a sheet of paper that says, Sophie School for Evil first year. Now Sophie and Agatha might not be able to switch schools anymore because they are now officially placed into their schools and now everyone knows that they are good or evil. Sophie thinks that it is a mistake that Sophie got placed into the school for evil and Agatha is a little confused if she was meant to be put in good or if she was not.

If you want to find out more read this book. This book is a mysterious, adventurous and magical book. So if you like those kind of books you might want to read this book.  I would give this book a four star rating out of five stars.

WARRIORS: Into the wild      by Erin Hunter

A Book Review by Oni Thornell

In this exciting filled book a cat named Rusty, lives in a small house that cats refer to as a twoleg nest. Rusty longs to go into the forest and hunt and be free. One of rusty’s best friend named smudge told him that wild cats lived out there and that there are to many dangers.

One night Rusty’s longing for the woods was to hard to hold back and went to hunt for fun. While rusty was distracted he didn’t notice another cat sneaking up on him. The unfamiliar cat jumped on Rusty, but Rusty wouldn’t give up without a fight as the cats tussled the gray cat finally stopped and said, “you fight good for a kittypet, my name is Graypaw.” Rusty asked Graypaw where he was from and Greypaw said he was from Thunderclan.

While Graypaw and Rusty were talking movement came from the bushes and Graypaw said it was his leader from Thunderclan, Bluestar and Lionheart,Graypaws mentor. If you dare to call a clan yours, pick this book up and find which is yours.

This book I recommend to brave, strong and courageous people and give it *****stars

Girl Meets Ghost by Lauren Barnholdt

Girl Meets Ghost is about a girl named Kendall Williams who can see dead people. She can hear them and she can talk to them. Sometimes the ghosts need help to solve their problems (even though you would think ghosts don’t have problems because they’re dead, but in this book they do) and since she’s the only person in the world that can see, hear and talk to them, she’s the only person that can help solve their problems. This time around it is a 17 year old (but dead) gymnast, Daniella.

Sometimes, for Kendall, it gets really annoying because sometimes the ghosts pop up at really bad timing. For example, she’s really bad at math and Daniella, a lot of the time pops up during math. She thinks her life is really bad and to make it worse she has a crush on someone and she’s not sure he likes her back. And to make that crush situation worse the guy’s mom died. And the mom keeps showing up in Kendall’s bedroom every night. The mom keeps telling Kendall “put yourself on the green paper” but Kendall has no idea what that means. Kendall has to do lots of weird things to help Daniella. She has to lie about lots and lots of things to solve Daniella’s problems and to make her go away.

Girl Meets Ghost is realistic fiction with a hint of fantasy. This book is a medium 3rd grade book and a super easy 4th grade book. I would rate this book ***** because it’s cool to  see what it would be like to be able to talk to ghosts. I really liked this book and I think you should read it too.
