Parzival Essay

We read Parzival by Katherine Paterson. We had to write an essay about some of themes in the book, such as Fate V.S Free will, and Good to as questions V.S bad to ask questions. I chose to do It is good to ask questions.  We picked one of the themes we wanted to write about and then we began! There were many different stages to writing this essay. We started by writing a thesis statement and then moved on from there. The thesis statement is an important part of the essay. The thesis statement is writing your statement and then three pieces of evidence. The thesis statement was one of my strongest things in my essay. I struggled with writing a conclusion paragraph because I had a strong piece and it was hard to end strong. Ending strong is probably more important then anything. Some of the readers only remember the last part. We had a draft page where it wrote all of the prompts, and then when we felt we were finished we made a copy and deleted the prompts. I am very proud of my essay, at first I thought it wasn’t going to be fun but it turned out really exciting and fun.

Here is my Parzival essay.

It is good that Parzival asked questions because if he didn’t ask questions he could of gotten hurt, confused, and if Parzival didn’t ask questions he wouldn’t be on this.

Would your life be different if you never asked questions? Without questions none of us would be the people that we are. In the book Parzival by Katherine Paterson, a young boy goes on a magical journey to find out who he is, If he didn’t ask questions along they way he would not be royalty right now. It is good that Parzival asked questions because if he didn’t ask questions he could have gotten hurt, confused, and if Parzival didn’t ask questions he wouldn’t be on this journey.

Parzival could have gotten into danger if he didn’t ask questions. On on Page 19 “Kind sir,” said Parzival, “My horse and I are very tired and hungrier yet. Would you give us a meal and lodging?” If Parzival did not ask this man for food, he and his horse could of been in danger. They could have starved. It is significant that he asked this question because if he didn’t ask this question him and his horse could have died.  Not only could he have gotten into danger, he could have gotten very confused.

Parzival could have been puzzled if he didn’t ask questions. Page 22-23 , “But which of you is Arthur? I see many Arthur’s here. Which is the one who will make me a knight?”

If he didn’t ask that, he could of asked anyone to make him a knight and been embarrassed and confused.  If he walked up to some random person and asked them to make him a knight he

could have been called a fool and been laughed at. He would also be confused because he would not know why everyone was laughing. Parzival needs to ask questions or else a lot of the good things wouldn’t have happened in the book.

It is good that Parzival asked questions because if he didn’t he wouldn’t even be on this journey. On page 6 , “who is God mother?” He asked his mom who God was. If he never asked her that he wouldn’t want to be a knight and he wouldn’t be on this journey. If you remember in the beginning  he went on this journey to find the Devil. He wouldn’t know about Angels and Devils if he didn’t ask his mom all these questions. All these reasons prove that It is good that Parzival asked questions.

The questions Parzival asked impacted not only him but everyone around him. If he didn’t ask the questions he asked he wouldn’t be sitting in a throne right now. Just like Parzival, Malala from the book Malala by Malala Yousafzai questioned girls educational rights. If she didn’t question a girl’s right to be educated, girls would not be allowed to go to school. Start asking questions more because questions change the world. Don’t wait for others to change the world, change it yourself.

About Hirsch Emma

My name is Emma Hirsch. I am in the Human Trafficking group. I am interested in this topic because it is frightening how real it is and how it could happen to anyone. I think this topic is important because of how real it is and how many people don't even know what is going on right by them

I really liked your piece, and at the end, I 100% agreed with you. The only thing is you said good a lot. Maybe take away the word good and find synonyms to replace it. Besides that it was amazing.

I really love how you wrote this piece and how you explained how you wrote a paragraph explaining and then how you showed the entire paragraph. I really like your piece.
