I think I have finally reached the point in the senior project experience where I am able to enjoy the work I’m doing. For example, the scene Landline, which is written to take place over the phone, has a lot of opportunities to come up with interesting ways to adjust it to the computer. I’ve been trying to direct for zoom rather than ignore it, and that is one of the best scenes for it. Surprisingly, it’s interesting to invent ways to have characters exit and enter the scene, and other maneuvers like that. I’ve tried to incorporate that into other scenes. For example, Othello, I’ve decided to modernize and have take place over an actual zoom call. This helps make the Shakespeare seem much more natural, what they’re doing could actually happen. In other cases there are ways to make the scenes seem like they’re actually taking place in person. So I’m learning to do whats best for each scene.
