Week 5

At the beginning of this week, I made a major mistake, I needed to thin down the headstock enough so the tuners would fit all the way through. Instead of filling the headstock down which might have taken up to 3 hours, I decided to cut it down from the top. The beginning of the cut was at the right depth but as I kept sawing the blade angled farther into the wood making a deeper cut. I didn’t realize my saw was out of square until it was too late. The headstock was far to thin towards the bottom of the headstock and angled towards the top. For a few minutes, it really felt like I destroyed the thing I have dedicated a whole month and half of my life to. But I remembered that some guitar headstocks are made of two pieces of wood, the second piece that is glued to the headstock is called a cap. I had an offcut of the same wood I used for the top, I filled the thinn headstock as flat as I could and glued the second piece on. I then cut out and filled out the shape of the headstock. Later in the week, I touched up the soundhole then glued the top on the body. the next day I sawed it out then filled it to get it perfectly to size.
