Jane Olsen Post #5 Wellness Exploration

Today as a part of my weekly theme of exercise, I watched youtube videos about runners (and non runners) processes to prepare for and eventually run marathons. I began watching one video from Karlie Kloss simply because I wanted to spice up my exercise research but it turns out I got hooked to these videos. Each one was super inspiring, especially the videos I watched where the person was not a runner or not really into running and then ended up crossing the finish line. I even teared up after watching some, in complete awe of the capabilities of different individuals.

This ties into a theme I have been thinking a lot about which is potential. During quarantine, so many people have taken the approach of relaxing and resetting but so many have also become hyper productive, trying to maximize their time during quarantine and suddenly become a master in all skills. For me, this has made me overwhelmed at times, pressured to believe I should be doing more with my time. So it has been a struggle to find a balance of work and productivity vs. self care and relaxation. A feeling I experienced after watching these marathon videos is the same feeling I felt after watching the Bulls Last Dance documentary – I am doing nothing with my life and I have enough potential to be a superstar. It is a daunting and threatening feeling but also empowering, knowing that I can achieve a lot of things. But also empowering to know that I can achieve these things based on my timeline, my individual goals, and even though others have already achieved them, its all about your process and what is best for you. – something I think is really important to keep in mind in the field of wellness but also during the time of Covid-19. So maybe I am not running a marathon anytime soon, but I will take inspiration from these videos and feel motivated in other areas of my life.
