Ari Week 3

This week after focusing some much on the videography of my project I tried using photography as the other key component in visual storytelling. Not only is this an unprecedented moment in the world, but the impact it has had on New York has been some of the most influential. I have been shooting stills for the past few days soaking up what is much of closed stores and an influx of people wearing masks. In addition to my documentary, I began writing and creating shorter videos. They all align in answering my essential question in what it looks like to tell an authentic story. They also help me experiment with different camera techniques and editing tricks that I otherwise would have as much freedom to do. Making lots of short videos in addition to my more ambitious documentary gives me a chance to practice beginning to end production on a much smaller scale and in far less time. I have internalized the difficulties of my documentary and the lack of a clear subject that is other than the pandemic itself, and that if I want my film to be cohesive I need to find a way to guide the viewer through each chapter without having one individual subject.
