Jaquie’s week 3 post

Going into my third week, I decided to look into specifics of what is happening to our country and the economic toll that this pandemic has taken on us. I specifically looked into the unemployed, small business, and the stimulus bill that was supposed to help thousands of people. I also started my second course on COVID-19 (COVID-19: DIAGNOSTICS AND TESTING FOUNDATION FOR INNOVATIVE NEW DIAGNOSTICS) and I’m slowly working through it. I finished the first and second week and I am now awaiting the third week to be released. The third topic that I looked into was the anti-body tests and the science and reasons for why we can’t use them yet. There is news that they are testing around NYC and that 21% of the people are coming back positive with antibodies markers. I not only looked into the pros/cons of the test but, what these scientists are looking for, for example, the five different classes of immunoglobulins and what the markers mean/show.

The last topic that I started to dig into was my surveys and coming up with a plan of how they are going to contribute to my final presentation. Along with this, I came up with a few solutions on how to fix and better our healthcare system and I decided to look more into the Bernie Sanders Medicare for All Act of 2019. I sorted through all the information and took parts that I want to use for my end product. Hopefully, by next week I will start to print out information and start piecing everything together.

I have attached my notes below:

  1. Hello Jaquie,
Excellent summation of what you have discovered – do you have any personal reflections about these ideas? Is there something you’ve discovered that has surprised you or that has led you down a different path from what you imagined? Is there any science that you found to be compelling – or equally, science that you might be questioning? About that 21% number – what does that give you cause to think about in regards to the number of infected/deaths being reported an what that means for the future? If you’re not sure, have you thought about digging deeper into those thoughts?
