Our group watched a very moving documentary that covered various topics involving environmental issues. It covered overcomsumption, sustainability, pollution and global warming. This documentary was called, “Racing Extinction” on Discovery Channel. I learned several heartbreaking facts that made me look at the world and what we humans are doing to it differently. I learned that thousands of manta rays are being killed around the world, wiping it’s population. This made me think about overconsumption and sustainability. We humans are using so much of our natural resources, yet we do not recycle nor reuse any of it. This whole of idea of “profit and greed” is destroying our planet. Not only do we waste our resources, we create pollution as well. Companies all around the world are releasing gases into the air. But also, we are cutting down thousands of trees which help the planet and our air. Therefore, creating this big mess in our environment. This made me think, “Well, what happens with our waste?” We burn it. We let out all this methane into the air. What else do we do? We dump it into the ocean, killing thousands of ecosystems. This made me feel sick, disappointed, and ashamed. Why are we destroying something that took billions of years to create?
All in all, this film was very informative and shows us the truth about factories, landfills and how profit and greed is taking over. I was very lucky to have watched this film. It really inspired me to take action and inform others.
