Attention to detail By Sierra

I am continuing to forces on attention to detail and I think I have been doing a much better job. For example checking over my work has helped because I can catch more mistakes. In writing especially I have been sure to check over my work more for spelling and grammar mistakes but in other classes it has also improved like math. In math I tend to rush but lately I have been taking my time more and my grades are really improving. One assignment in particular that is difficult is beat the basics in math. Beat the basics is a homework assignment that we do every week and because I have been checking my work I have been doing much better. I feel like since my last post I have improved greatly but I would like to continue and do even better at attention to detail.

1 Learning value Post By Sierra

This year I am focusing on attention to detail. I chose this because I want to make sure I’m adding a lot of detail in my work because it makes it better. Grammar and punctuation are  things that fall into the category. In humanities, attention to detail is the most challenging for me. I want to make sure I check over my work to find as many errors as possible. In math, attention to detail has been hard for me. For example, on a test I took I forgot about the negative symbol and I got the right answer but because it was not negative I got the question wrong. The reason I have had trouble with this in the past is because I try and rush through my work and I don’t always check it. This year I want to make sure I check my work on spelling, punctuation and grammar, not to mention taking my time in my work. I think this will help me because I will have work I am proud of and work I did not rush through.

Art Eye Project By Sierra McDonald

This is an in progress drawing of my eye. In art we are working a lot on value and I tried really hard to blend it so it looks like a real eye. I used six pencils 6B, 4B, 2B, B, HB, and 2H, I also used a blender. A blender is used to blend the lines together making them look smooth. Another thing we have been working on in the eye is shading, we used the pencils and shaded around and in the eye to make it look more realistic. Working on this eye has been really fun and I think it looks pretty good so far. I’m really excited to continue and do eye lashes!

The Mask By Sierra

In Art class we were given an assignment to do anything we want using a subway map of NYC. This project had to be unique to us as artists, I decided my project would be a mask of my face. What I would do is make a plastered mask and then paper mache the map onto the mask. So I started my project by asking Anna (Thank you Anna!) to plaster the mask onto my face, after this I would sit for 15 minutes to let it dry. If your wondering, yes it was very uncomfortable! After I was done paper macheing I wasn’t sure what to do, so I thought and thought and then I decided since it was a city I made buildings popping  out from the map then I made a statue of liberty crown! It looks great and I really enjoyed my time working on 6th grade art!

Promiss

Something happened

That warm July day

I have never been the same

I walk down the street we used to walk down

Together

Without you here I feel empty

Inside and out

Death

It won’t separate us

I promise

I always keep my promesses

I promass

Sorry?

I wasn’t there when I should have been

I didn’t want to hear your voice

Sorry?

Not sorry

I really did get your call

I pressed decline

Sorry?

Not sorry

I really didn’t have Homework

I just didn’t want to see you

Sorry?

Nope

Not sorry

Fear

Do you ever think about

What might lurk under your bed

Or what might

Hide in your closet

Once the children’s parents turn off the light

You wake up to some rustling in the closet

That’s when they pounce

They show their fangs that hang over their grim face

The dark creature reaches out a hand to grab you when

Your heart beats so fast

You might explode

Fear

It will follow you

Always

How to Be Nice By Auntie

Step number 1

Try to mind your own business

“She disapproves of  Sharma, who left her husband because he beet her.” I don’t feel bad for her. I mean my husband doesn’t care enough about me he’s always working! He goes off and only comes to see me a few times a year to brings me back pots.

Step number 2

Smile.

“Auntie smiled for the first time in two days.” In my defense I was waiting for the right moment. And also you don’t know how long the smile lasted!

Step number 3

Try to be be nice!

“I worry, you’ll spend your life savings on two dowries and two weddings. Without a son, who will bring a dowery for you? And who will take care of you when you’re old?”

“Mama and Dadi are happy!” Shabanu says sticking out her chin. “What do you know?” I said this knowing I was talking to a small girl who did not completely understand the situation.

How to Deal with a sister who can’t do anything right By Auntie

Step number 1

Try best not to explode with anger when your sister can’t do anything right.

“If God blessed you with sons we would not have to break our fingers over wedding dresses.” I say this praying to God asking him why instead of boys they had two, not one but two girls! I fulfilled my purpose in life. I gave birth to two beautiful little boys, they will grow up and inherit all of our family fortune.

Step number 2

Try and keep your opinions to your self, no matter how right you are.

“A young lady should not go with her head uncovered. You’re to old to act like a boy!” I mean come on people when your five its fine but going out into public just makes it not ok! I wear mine my sister wears hers and even Phulan wears her head scarf! And we are not even going out in public!

Step number 3

Try to smile.

“She smiles for the first time in two days.” I smiled trying not to act superior to my sister, no never thats a lie I love to rub it in. So I gave her my best fake smile. I could tell she thought it was real! Darn it!
