Look 5: Porcelina in Pine

Though I started working on this piece at the beginning of the third week, I knew that I wanted this to be the final culminating garment of my project. I started by making a paper mache mold of the silhouette I wanted, which was loosely based on french silhouette. My first attempt was with a glass bowl which did not end up working too well. Then I tried to make the mold using an old sun that was about the right size for my doll. This worked wonderfully and I started to make the dress. I had to first cut the pine cones which proved to be much more difficult than I thought. Then I began to attach them to the base using hot glue. I started on the waist line with the smallest petals I had and then used bigger petals as the dress went down. I also tried to tell a bit of a color story with the more auburn petals on the left and the brown of the right, but this isn’t completely clear in the photographs. Overall I am super happy with this look and I think it’s one of my best.
