Onaje #7: Distinguishing Masses of Value

After watching a video on composition and value, I decided to organize my next pandemic drawing into 5 value groups before rendering the elements of the scene. Doing so made the process behind this drawing just a little different than usual.

First, I slowly applied a some charcoal powder into every area that was gonna be below a 6 on the value scale. Iwas very careful in this stage, making sure the entire application of charcoal was consistent and at a 5 on the value scale.

Then, I pushed my value range and put every area into one of five value groups. Once again, I aimed to be very consistent and careful in this stage, constantly comparing my piece to my value scale and making sure I am confidentially distinguishing my shapes.

After this, I rendered the piece. Since the values I laid down were to be the lightest value on each particular region, I mainly had to darken certain areas.
