The first, Civil Engineers and their Role in Adaptation in the face of Climate Change (link), was a bit more like an exclamation of what should be done. It felt a bit more like a call to action rather than an action plan. in a way it was just confirmation that my essential question felt with something that others were also thinking about. It was a jumping off point, a way to ensure that there was something for me to find. It gave me some vocabulary, some basic knowledge about the topic, and sent me off.

The second, an adaptation case study of a Sea Wall in New York (link) was a bot more indicative of the process of creating a more sustainable and adaptable world. It dent with the challenges of building something meant to last and protect, all the while giving examples. It highlighted the smaller after thoughts, like the idea of making resilient infrastructure something that added to the residents experience as well as protected them. I think it was this source that for the first time really involved residents in the thought process behind the planning, rather than leaving them as an afterthought. I had never really thought of it that way. Seems lightly self centered now, of course you would put the people living there first, but their overall contentment was definitely not in my original thinking. Willingness to receive input for the betterment of their neighborhood was made an essential piece of the design process, and it was good to see.
