Cameron Krakowiak – Critical Reflection #4 (Due Wednesday, May 6th): Connect to outside sources

“How do journalists shape the stories they tell to a large audience?  How do you approach storytelling- especially distinguishing hard news versus opinion such as that on a round table talk show or podcast discussion? ADD, (March 31st): How can I translate my critical thinking skills to the traits and tools of a quality journalist?”

–> Critical Reflection #4 Assignment: Connect to outside sources (article/book/podcast/ted talk/blog/website/etc) [CR4]

This is a Text investigation. Consider your essential question in the context of the 2 outside sources you found and shared (1st one was on April 8th). How do these ideas resonate with or challenge your own beliefs, experiences, or practices? Be sure to give concrete and specific examples. You may want to address: ways the sources answered parts of your Essential Question, what additional questions were raised, or how your essential understanding of your project was altered or confirmed by the readings you did.

Make sure to cite your sources.

My most recent outside source was the Best American Sports Writing.  I used this as a source in order to understand how to tell stories of players and how to cultivate a story.  Through the reading of this my podcasting has grown substantially. Overall my development as a podcasting this trimester has gone much further than I expected, lots from reading and listening I’ve done from outside sources.   Dan Harris’ book 10% happier may have been a memoir of sorts but it taught me how to express my thoughts and how I can do that better within my podcasts and interviews. I think my interview questions elevated after reading Best American Sports Writing when I had a clear idea of what I wanted to do, where I wanted to go with the questions, and interview.  After coming out of my first few interviews in the first half I thought the depth dialogue in them wouldn’t be as well developed as I would like.  The Dan Harris interview really propelled me into a better interviewer and to role with the flow and to execute being a better speaker.  I think it’s because I read 10% Happier book with an EBook.  I think I definitely ended up in a better position from where I started because I think I know now how to lead into my questions now with a climax. I learned a lot from meeting reading the stories because I need to tell a story with my podcasts. That’s what I tried to fix after my David Hershkovits interview, I was able to give deeper meaning and became better at listening to the other person I was podcasting with.
