Cameron’s #3 Critical Reflection

-> Critical Reflection #2 Assignment: Now that you’re three weeks (half way) into your senior project experience, are you answering your essential question?

I believe I am answering my essential question because I’m exploring every day how to create my own storylines with my podcast. I am also exploring it by reading stories/books about journalism.  I am answering it especially when I’m expanding my horizons during the interviews and going outside of my box to make sure my interviews are clear and concise.  I’m attempting to answer smart questions and creating a storyline in each of my podcasts.

— Writing on your essential question: What have you learned about your essential question so far? What further questions do you have? and/or Has your essential question changed? If so, how? What do you want to know more about?

My essential hasn’t changed that much but it has switched to the I pov.  My question is: How do news journalists and sports journalists shape the stories they tell to a large audience? How do they approach storytelling- especially distinguishing hard news versus opinion such as that on a round table talk show or podcast discussion? ADD, (March 31st): How can I translate my critical thinking skills to the traits and tools of a quality journalist?  I think that the news journalists and sports journalist broadness has switched to how can I shape the stories I tell to a large audience.  It has translated to who I am rather than the broader question.  I am still reading and learning from my interviews about the journalists and how they shape stories and tell them to a larger audience but I’m doing more research/learning myself.

— How are you exploring your essential question; is it different from what you expected? If you don’t feel like you’re answering your essential question, what is happening that’s different from what you expected?

No it’s what I expected.  I was hoping that it would turn out to be about how I’ve created my own podcast.

— Are you surprised by any of the challenges that you’ve faced so far? How have you met those challenges and what can you do going forward to deal with them?

One of the challenges I’ve faced is how I’ve had lulls in some of my weeks. One week I will have a lot of work, the next I won’t have much work.  It’s just the way my project has worked out.
