My essential question is relation to real-world observation & exploration, and how I can use fiction to indirectly examine what happens around me. That in itself spawns more questions: is this examination necessarily deliberate? If so, how can I recognize that I’m doing it and whether I’m succeeding or failing; if not, does it come on its own? Will any story reflect the circumstances and surrounding of its author? To answer these questions, I’m going to pursue two goals. The first is to read and watch stories in the genres that I’m interested in and to see what I can glean about the makers of those stories. The second is to try to create a story of my own in the same format. I’m going to self-interrogate as I try to form this story to see how I use it as a tool for understanding. I don’t want to define how this story will look, other than the beginnings of a movie, because I don’t know much about screenwriting or proposals.
