Trip to the IFC center 11/5/14

On Wednesday November 5th my group and I traveled to the movie theater to see Tough Love. This movie was about two parents, Hannah from New York, and Patrick from Seattle who lost there kids because they neglected them. These parents were convicted even though they may not have been at true fault. The film was directed by Stephanie Wang-Breal. She was lucky enough to get access into the two parents stories. Both parents have similar situations. They both neglected their children in the past and are trying to prove to the court that they can take their kids back. Patrick was lucky enough to prove to the Judge that he had made a mistake and that he was ready to get his daughter back. Hannah was not as lucky. She was allowed to see her children during certain times. While her husband, who isn’t the real father of the kids spends the rest of the time with the two. The film was a very sad showing of how difficult it is to fix your mistakes. The court can take months to decide on what is right and wrong. After the film the director stayed for a Q and A. Most of the questions were about how the film was constructed and how she was able to get the access to film the parents. Overall I think that this trip was very important. I think that it was beneficial for us to see a case in real life and see how it progresses and the ups and downs in trying to get your kids back.

This is a picture of Hannah from NYC. Although she was unable to get her kids back she is able to spend time with the children.
