Name: Tess
Social Justice Group: 2018-2019, Women: Maternal Health
Date of Fieldwork: November 30, 2018
Name of Organization: Planned Parenthood
Person (people) with whom I met and their job titles: Chakshu Patel
Type of Fieldwork: Interview
What I did:
Recently we met with Chakshu Patel, the Strategy officer for Planned Parenthood. We had many questions that we wanted to ask her. We interviewed her about what she does for planned parenthood and what they do as an organization.
What I learned:
We learned many valuable pieces of information about our topic. We were asking her many questions about our topic, and how her work and organization relate to that. We asked her various things like what she does on a typical day at work. She told us that it varies because there are so many different cases and things that they are dealing with. We asked her about the main reasons women go there for help and abortions. She was able to tell us that this is for many reasons, a main one being poverty. We also learned about feminism and how this generation needs to be the change.
What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:
I learned a lot about the dedicated doctors that help to make sure every pregnancy is safe. They make sure that every that comes in to their office can get the help they need. They are very dedicated to making sure people get the right things, and they take many things to court.
