Learning About Invisibility During Interview with Elizabeth Guillen from Invisible Children

Name: Marlo Hulnick

Social Justice Group: Children In Armed Conflict

Date of Fieldwork: November 15, 2017

Name of Organization: Invisible Children

Person (people) with whom I met and their job titles: Elizabeth Guillen, Supporter of Engagment Intern at Invisible Children

Type of Fieldwork: Interview

What I did:

During the fieldwork we interviewed Ms. Guillen and asked her questions about KONY 2012, the future of the organization, and she told us ways that we might be able to find more organizations. KONY 2012 was a project that the organization Invisible Children did in 2012. It was to spread awarness about child soldiers, but it ended up backfiring after the person who started it became corrupt and took all the money that they raised.

What I learned:

I learned more about KONY 2012 and I also learned about the organizations efforts in the war zones and efforts to get rid of the L.R.A.. The L.R.A. is a rebel resistance group that recruits child soldiers.

What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:

From this fieldwork I learned some of the steps or researching and looking for organizations, how to have a good interview, and I learned a lot about writing emails to organizations.
