On February 19th, my group and I were lucky to have Marion White, the Director of CAPP, visit LREI and speak with the entire 8th Grade about child abuse and what her organization does. Marion covered all aspects of child abuse, including neglect, physical, sexual, emotional abuse, what they are, why they happen, and what effects they can have on children. She also educated our classmates on what to do if one suspects that their friend or someone they know is being abused, or if they are themselves. Marion also brought two of the puppets that CAPP uses to educate children about abuse and neglect. Seeing her perform a snippet of one of their skits was very interesting and I believe it really helped my classmates get a sense of what CAPP does and how children can be educated about serious issues, in an understandable way.
Overall, I thought her visit was very informative and intriguing, and provided my classmates with important information on what child abuse is and how it can be handled and ultimately, put to an end.
