Discussion and Listening

I previously choose to work on my discussion and listening skills. My goal was to raise my hand at least once per class and to try not to get as embarrassed as I normally do. So far, I have been raising my hand more often. Maybe not every class, but for a lot of them. I still have to work on not getting so nervous, and I think this is what is stopping me. I do not think I will completely eradicate my anxiousness, but I can get better. I will continue to work on participating more in class.

My 2017-2018 Learning Value

I choose discussion and listening to be my 2017-2018 learning value. I will participate more in class and at the end of the week, I will document my progress. My goal is to raise my hand at least once per class. The reason I choose this learning habit is that I do not talk enough in class. Since I do not talk in class enough not only does my grade go down I also do not get enough out of the class. If I talk more, than I could understand the new material, and share my ideas with my class so that they can benefit from them as well. I have not shared my ideas enough in the past because I get nervous that I will look foolish in front of my peers. That has not changed but I am willing to give it a shot to challenge myself. Besides raising my hand at least once per class, I will learn how to calm down so I do not get so embarrassed and nervous. I could talk about ways to calm myself with my mom.

Do You Want to Become a Camel?

“The others, fifty or so big camels and dozens of babies, follow in a close knot.” Pg.118

So you want to become a camel, eh. Well guess what, that is the topic of today. I don’t think you can directly become a camel unless you acquire some magic. But today I will tell you how to act like one. First you need to gather a herd, so go outside and find the few friends that you actually have. Second you need to throw out everything but the basic camel necessities (food and water). Third you need to find someone to take care of you like my owner Shabanu. Fourth you need to find you and your herd camel costumes to look the part. Make sure to walk the same way as camels so nobody mistakes you as silly humans. Finally create a language of camel noises for you and your herd to communicate. There you go! A five step plan for success on being a camel. Good bye for now!

The First Blog Writing Camel!!!

“Loping behind is Mithoo, bigger by a head than he was when we left, his legs still too long and flying out in funny little kicks.” Pg. 77

Hi! I’m Mithoo, and I am a young camel. I live in the Cholistan Desert with my herd, Owner Shabanu, Owner Phulan, Owner Mama, Owner Dadi, their Auntie and two cousins. I love my herd so much but all they do is shun me away (T~T). I keep trying though! Soon enough I will become apart of their family… Hmm, what to talk about… Oh! Please don’t tell the Owners that I have a blog!!! They will surely shut it down, also they might use me for money. You don’t see many camels that can write, do you. (If you do please comment below I would love to meet other camels of my caliber) They might show my skills off for money, or worse, sell me. How unfortunate that might be if that happens but I’m willing to take a chance. So to get to the point my blog is about…

Camel life!

Camel food!

Camel culture!

AND

Camels!

Well if you are interested in camels keep reading my blog! If not, your loss. So, good bye for now.

This is a drawing of me that one of my Owners’ friends drew.

Circulatory System

In science we are studying the Circulatory system. The Circulatory system pumps blood throughout your body to spread nutrients and oxygen to keep you alive. A fun fact that we found when we researched blood types is that Rh factor is named after the Rhesus monkey, because the Rh factor was first observed in the Rhesus monkey. The Rh factor is another antigen on the surface of your blood cell, not everyone has it. If you have the antigen you are Rh+, if you do not have the Rh factor you are Rh-. An interesting question that we have is; is the circulatory system the same for other mammals.

The First Reused Rocket in Space

March 30

SpaceX has made history by launching the first ever reusable rocket. The rocket is called Falcon 9. Previously Falcon 9 has dropped off a bouncy house onto the drone ship called “Of Course I Still Love You” that was of the coast off the Florida coast. But this time Falcon 9 carried a communications satellite for a company called SES. The SpaceX rocket brought it’s payload (carrying the Dragon capsule). Then Falcon 9 turned itself around and went towards home in about 4.5 minutes after the launch. This is important because that rocket is only one of the first steps to populate Mars. But the next goal for SpaceX is to populate Mars.

HONY Creative Writing Revisions

A lot of people think that editing and revising are the same thing. Sure, they are very similar but there is one difference. Editing is when you fix grammar mistakes and revising is when you add more detail or fix the story line. The best way to revise is to stop working on it for a little bit then to go back with new eyes. I think it certainly helps flow new ideas.

My goal for revising was to add more detail to the scene when the main character gets poisoned, and the epilogue (the part with the blue haired girl). I think I did a pretty good job adding more detail on to those scenes. I believe that it adds a lot more context and it makes a lot more sense. I hope you like it!

Morning News-The First Ever Dinosaur Tail Found in Preserved Amber

December, 8, 2016

A dinosaur tail was found preserved in amber, complete with feathers, soft tissue, and bones. This tail is apart of a 99-million-year-old dinosaur. This is important because they have only found individual feathers in amber but never a full fledged tail.

The amber sample is almost translucent, and about the size of dried apricot. Inside the amber is a 1.4-inch attachment that is covered in chestnut brown feathers. CAT scans and microscopic analysis shows that the sample has 8 vertebrae from the middle or end of a long and thin tail. The tail may have been originally made up of 25 or more vertebrae. Also based on the structure of the tail, the dinosaur could be a coelurosaur. A coelurosaur is apart of a group of theropod dinosaurs that includes everyone from a T-Rex to modern birds.
