Science Diorama

Our science diorama is of the Ashokan Resevoir, and the name “Watery Graves” was not a figure of speech. It turns out a dozen small towns got evacuated so that the city can create the now famous Ashokan Reservoir. Families had to move out of homes, leave the schools and shops. 2,000 people were forced to move to higher ground or completely different towns against their will. The city offered to pay the residents $15 to dig up their friends or families graves and move them elsewhere. The Esopus Valley turned into the Esopus Creek. But many people grew up loving the Resevoir, getting ice blocks in the winter, and fish in the spring. There are mixed feelings about the situation but the land will forever stay wild, pure, and gorgeous.

Hey, I have I question for you

What would happen to the earth if humans disappeared?

If humans just disappeared than a lot of catastrophes will happen in the first couple of years because the deadly gasses will spread through the world killing all animals that breath in the air enough. Also all the cars, and planes would crash and fire would spread everywhere. And, the power plants would stop leading to major blackouts. The nuclear power plants would explode because the nuclear liquids would turn into gasses in the warm weather outside, causing the containers to no longer be able to hold the gas.

Are Human’s Following the Rules?

A bakery in India has been making edible spoons out of sorghum, rice, and wheat flour. They have been selling these just in India and wish to sell it worldwide. I think this article relates to the rule There is no such place as away. It is connected because it is a way to lower the use of plastic utensils so that less plastic is stuck just sitting under the ground, in the world. The cost of making plastic materials use much more greenhouse gasses, energy, and water then the edible spoons.  This is an example of humans following the rule by helping lower the use of plastic. In the future there should only be edible plates, edible cups, and edible cooking supplies. This would a better world to live in if it happened.

Have You Ever Thought about Trash…

There is no such thing as away.

Trash

Have you ever thought about what happens to your used water bottles or your empty Doritos bag that you threw away? Well, it doesn’t just disappear. When you throw away one soda bottle it doesn’t go away until 450 years has passed. That’s a long time for one bottle to decompose.

America is the leading country for how much trash we throw away. We throw away 624,700 metric tons per day! Also just in New York we throw away 12,000 tons every day all together. That’s 24,000,000 pounds. And as one person you throw away 4.3 pounds of trash. Now does that really make you think, because that really makes me think.

We should really start to think about how we should fix this problem or the land will be a giant trash pile eventually, and we will have to eat trash just like that cow.

Beryllium!

This is the atom Beryllium, it’s atomic number is four which means it has four protons and four neutrons. It has five electrons because it’s atomic mass is 9.00. You might be wondering why it has five electrons when it’s atomic mass is 9.00. This is because there is a simple math problem to solve. To get the exact number of electrons, subtract the atomic number minus the atomic mass. Every atom is comprised of electrons, neutrons, and protons. Electrons has -1 electric pulse while protons have +1 electric pulse; therefore, they cancel each other out. You’d probably guess neutrons are neutral.  The protons and neutrons are bound together by gravity. The electrons are found in the electron cloud which orbits around the protons and neutrons. The electrons swirl around the neutrons and protons, while the neutrons and protons orbit around each other, and they never stop. Beryllium is actually used to make other metals stronger in general sense. I think that is pretty cool.

Big Bang Project

Hi guys, this is Ally, Noelle, and my Big Bang Project. Something inaccurate about our model is that we made sound effects and there is no sound in space. Something that is accurate is that we used our hands symbolizing gravity pulling the atoms together to make stars, and galaxies. I hope you like our video!
