Happiness

You should

Try being cheerful

You’ll be glad to

Smile

I was inspired because I was really happy the day I wrote it and I wanted to share that joy. My poem is a cinquain. So it is five lines and each line has a certain number of words per line so it goes:

1 word

2 words

3 words

4 words

1 word

There is line breaks and beat. I really like how my poem turned out. I am proud because I feel that it really conveys the message I was trying to get across.

My Map Project

I would like to name this work of art NYC Life

I created this work of art by cutting out pieces of my map out in shapes that could symbolize how I felt about different places in NYC. Then I glued it onto a big black in white map so they would stand out. Some of things I learned while creating it were it  is hard to cut with exact knifes in a circle and they are mostly made for straight lines and that everyone has a different view of the city. My favorite part is my heart piece because it symbolizes that I love Manhattan and even though the heart is surrounding central park which I love I also love Manhattan and it also surrounds the word Manhattan. If I could change something about it, it would be it would be that the  black and white map was of all of NYC and not of just downtown Manhattan. While making it I was surprised that there is a subway stop almost everywhere in the city. Something else I want to share about this artwork is I spent a lot of time and work and I really put some feeling into each of the places.

Jemma Map Project 4

Map Art

My Map art is a map where I cut out different places and different meanings. So I am happy at Coney Island so I cut out coney island in a circle and put a smiley face on it. I live on 16th street so I cut out 16th street in the shape of a house. I like to eat in the west village so I cut out part of the west village in the shape of a chicken leg. And a few other things. Jemma Map Project 2

How to Make Chapatis – By Phulan

File_000If you are looking for something to make you should make chapatis! Chapatis are thin pancakes of  whole-grain bread cooked on a griddle.

To make chapatis you need:

Step one of making chapatis:

In a large bowl, stir together the whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour and salt. Use a wooden spoon to stir in the olive oil and enough water to make a soft dough that is elastic but not sticky. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface until it is smooth. Divide into 10 parts, or less if you want bigger breads. Roll each piece into a ball. Let rest for a few minutes.

Step 2:

Heat a skillet over medium heat until hot, and grease lightly. On a lightly floured surface, use a floured rolling pin to roll out the balls of dough until very thin like a tortilla. When the pan starts smoking, put a chapati on it. Cook until the underside has brown spots, about 30 seconds, then flip and cook on the other side. Continue with remaining dough.

Thank you for learning how to make chapatis!!

What Should I Wear? – By Phulan

osh3
This is a shatoosh

My wedding is coming up soon and I need help finding what color shawl I should wear, what color should my dress be, and what should I wear in general. If you want a new shawl I recommend getting one that matches your eye color. My eye color is gold so I am wearing a gold shawl to my wedding. A shatoosh is very hard to find, but if you find one should buy it. They don’t make them anymore. But a shatoosh is very pretty. There are so few wild goats and nobody has the patience to gather the chin hairs from the bushes where they graze. Even the richest man in Pakistan can’t afford to buy a shatoosh. (pg. 73)

Best Friends

I wrote a poem called Best Friends and here it is:

Best friends

I have a few

Two live across the world

Five live a couple blocks away

From me

I wrote best friends talking about how I have a lot of best friends but they are not always right there. I did it to say that if I need someone I have a lot of people to go to but not everyone that I would like to. Best Friends is a cinquain poem and it took me some time to write. The form is cinquain type 3 which means it is:

syllables

syllables

I wrote 4 cinquains but this one is my favorite. I really like this poem because it expresses that I have a lot of friends but when I miss one of my best friends who live across the world I can go see one of them that lives nearby.

These are Epithelial Cells, they are used as a microvilli bordering the villi. Epithelial tissues line the cavities and surfaces of blood vessels and organs throughout the body.

Epithelial cells come in three different shapes and sizes. The shape of the cell changes based on what purpose the cell needs to accomplish. Cuboidal Epithelial cells are what your skin is made of. That’s why your skin is squishy. It wouldn’t work if you had squamous cells because the are too leaky. If you had columnar Epithelial cells, your hand would be too thick! That wouldn’t be too convenient, would it?

The three types of epithelial cells are:

and cuboidal.

Your hand is covered in them! Cuboidal epithelial cells, as their name suggest, are shaped like cubes they are shaped like cubes . They are typically found in tissues that secrete or absorb substances, such as in the kidneys and glands. Columnar cells are long and thin, like columns. These are usually found in places that secrete mucus like the stomach. They need to be that shape because it has to be really thick because of all of the fluids and acids that are in your stomach etc. Squamous epithelial cells are flat and are usually found lining surfaces that require a smooth flow of fluid such as your blood vessels, or lining areas that require a very thin surface for molecules to pass through, like the air sacs in your lungs.

Art work

My Geometric pattern: My geometric pattern is a example of Islamic art. We colored in examples of Islamic art and made our own patterns cut out our shapes and used the pieces to glue together.
