Period Con, 11/18/17

Last weekend we attended Period Con, there were many panels and speakers and we met a lot of activists that work to make sure everyone who menstruates get menstrual products and they are also working to demolish the taboo around menstruating and the “tampon tax.” One very interesting panel addressed that some men menstruate because they might be trans or might not identify with a gender but they are biological a woman so they have to menstruate. So a few things I learned from that panel was that first, we can refer to them as feminine hygiene products because not only women use them and also when referring to them a hygiene it implies that it is dirty and needs to be cleaned as opposed to just staying clean. So the correct term to refer to them as is “menstrual products.” I felt that the event was very empowering and seeing all of the people there who thought that this was an important issue was amazing. And hearing how people addressed the area that was usually ignored was awesome. I wish that I could be as amazing as the women there. I think that Period Con jump-started our group to get a lot done. Because we met so many amazing people and organizations that it really helped us. Through period con we also got an interview with YouTuber Ingrid Nilsen who uses her youtube to be an activist for periods. Period Con was just an amazing experience overall and I am so honored that I got to become a part of it.

Photo Shop Intro Project

In my design you have pattern because there are 2 men in different positions in clothing but the point of the 2 of them in consitency. There is also contrast because of the monotone and duotone so the sign and the men and the cast are all darker and the rest of it is lighter to create contrast. There is proportion and scale because all of the different masks and things in the original picture are different sizes. There is movement because from the men you can tell they are in the middle of an action so they are moving even if it is a frozen image. The playbill shows emphasis because it shows what the picture is about you can tell the playbill is closer and because all of the other main parts are in black and white you can tell the playbill is the most important.
