My Fiction Story

A Girls Best Friend

“Isabel, take off your shoes right now young lady! You are dragging dirt all over the house!” her mom said.
“Yeah Issy!” her 5 siblings chanted. Isabel hated how her siblings always nagged and taunted at her. But Isabel always ignored them and walked away. Isabel and her dad were like best friends. The only bad thing about that is that she only saw him in the morning and on the weekends. Isabel and her dad always wanted to get a dog but all the other girls including her mom, hated animals! Isabel sat in her bed on top of her feathered mattress, under her silk green sheets and tried to get some peace considering all her sisters and her shared one big room. After school, Isabel always walked home with Lisa, her only friend. Lisa

didn’t have any brothers or sisters but she did have a dog. Isabel was always welcome in Lisa’s house, at least she thought she was. Lisa had the cutest Chiwawa Isabel had ever seen. Her name was Nocho. She had a white belly and a brown back. She had big brown eyes and every time you looked into them you can almost make out little sparkles. Nocho is the kindest dog anyone could and will ever meet, but she adored Isabel the most. Isabel and Lisa had a lot in common, they both loved animals, their favorite color was green, and they both loved pickles. Isabel had a key to Lisa’s house but Isabel’s mom wouldn’t even give Isabel a key, let alone Lisa.
Lisa’s room was Identical to Isabel’s corner of her room. They both had lime green floral wall paper with a lime green curtain around their Identical leafy green beds. The only difference is Lisa has a fuzzy green carpet and Isabel is stuck with a pink carpet because Isabel has 5 other siblings who are obsessed with pink.
“C’mon, I just got a mini trampoline, want to try it out?” Lisa said as she urged Isabel on.
“Ok, ok. But I really must be going.” Isabel replied.
Lisa grabbed Isabel by the wrist and pulled her towards the little blue trampoline. The girls took turns on it until they were out of breath like a deflated hot air balloon. The girls hurried inside to grab some cool lemonade when Isabel looked looked at the clock, it was almost 6:00pm. Isabel grabbed her sweater, her backpack and headed outside into the street. As Isabel made her way down the block she noticed a sign that said, “Free Dogs Waiting For Adoption” Isabel thought it was a miracle that she miraculously had this chance to get a dog, and it was free! Isabel hurried home as fast as her little legs could carry her. As she made her way up the stairs she reminded herself that if she asked her mom if she could get the dog the answer would be no, so she ran all the way back to the little dog in the box and picked it up. Isabel brought the little dog’s wet nose up to her cheek and cuddled with the little weak dog. She tucked the dog into her sweater and walked home. When she got home Isabel took off her shoes right away trying to avoid the wrath of an angry mother in a clean house. She brought the little dog up to her room and closed her green curtain for privacy. She pulled out the little blue create she made with her dad a couple years ago. The create was very small, meant for a little dog just like the one Lisa had. It was decorated with glitter, stickers and paint. Inside it had a blue bed Isabel made in a sewing class when she was in second grade. It was too big for the create so Isabel had to get her dad to wedge it inside the create. Isabel took the dog out from inside her sweater and put it inside the create. “Isabel you up there?” her mom shouted as if Isabel was a mile away.
“Yah.” Isabel replied
“Come down for dinner.” Her mom shouted out again.
“I’ll be down in a minute.” Isabel called back down nervously.
“No, no, no, you don’t tell me i’ll be down in a minute, I told you to come down for dinner so come down for dinner!” Her mom called back. Isabel could tell her mom wasn’t kidding, she never was.
Isabel quickly gave the dog a leftover turkey and cheese sandwich from her lunch the past day at school and stuck the dog along with the sandwich into the create. Then gave the dog an old sock so he wouldn’t whine. She then filled up a bowl of water and left the dog and the create under her bed. “Isab-” her mom tried to say as Isabel cut her off by saying, “coming” .
She could tell her mom was not happy. As Isabel walked down the stairs and into the dining room she could see all her sisters gathered around the table. She could tell this was going to be a long dinner considering it was Friday and the girls had no school the next day or the following day. That meant that tomorrow Isabel could tell her dad that she got a dog and then he could convince her mom to get a dog and then Isabel could pretend that she never got the dog on Friday. Now running it all through her head, she could see that her plan was a little complex and long, very very long but until her dad got home tomorrow nothing would be possible.

Once dinner was over Isabel went upstairs and changed into her pink nightgown. She wanted green but her sisters insisted on pink. Isabell took out the dog from under her bed. She got in bed with the dogs hot little body up against her chest. She could feel the deep breaths the little dog was taking. She knew that getting this dog was not a mistake, for now. Isabel closed her eyes and tried to think happy thoughts like how she just got a dog today, or how her dad was coming home tomorrow, how all her sisters were going to a sleepover tomorrow, or how she was going to Lisa’s house again. And soon enough Isabel was sound asleep.

“Bark, bark, bark”
“Isabel what was that?” One of her sisters said, “what noise, I don’t hear any noise, you must be hearing things because I don’t hear any noise.” Isabel replied sounding uneasy.
“Are you ok Isabel? You don’t sound so great. Do you want me to get mom?” Another one of Isabel’s sisters responded.
“No!” Isabel said without hesitation. “I’ll be ok.” She added.
Isabel’s sisters had left her alone for a while but the piercing call of one of them broke the silence. It turns out that what her sister had to say was actually good news for Isabel. “DAD IS HOME…and he wants to see you?” she said sounding confused. Isabel hurried down stairs to see her dad, she ron up to him and gave him a big old bear hug. He said, “Listen, me and your mom have been thinking about getting a dog for a while now but we wanted to let you pick it out since you have been asking us for one for almost 3 whole years.”
“OMG,OMG,OMG!!!!” Isabel screamed while shaking her arms. “Wait…” She added.
“What’s wrong” Her dad said, isn’t this what you always wanted?”
“Well…dad can I talk to you in a different room?”Isabel said as she led her dad to the other room.
“What is it honey?” Her dad said.
“I may have gotten, Wait I wrote it down because I know it was going to be hard to say…” She said as she gave her dad the note.
“Really?” Her dad said as he read the note. “I have a way we can fix this.” her dad said with a grin on his face. Isabel had a good feeling about this plan.
The next day Isabel got a phone call from Lisa and she did not seem to happy about Isabel missing her playdate, but when Isabel tried to explain she just shut her out. Over all the phone call ended with I two i’m sorrys and one I forgive you.

Isabel met up with her dad when he announced the plan…So we went up to mom and told her that we were going to the pets store to get a dog but what we really did was got our dog that she didn’t know about and brought it outside. We bought a blue color to match the bed and create we got for him. Then we brought him home like he was brandnew and waited for the girls to get back from their sleepover so we could name the dog.
When they got home we all gathered around the living room coffee table with the dog. I could tell that all 5 girls were shocked that there was a little dog right in front of their eyes. “So…” My dad said”What do you think?” There was a moment of silence before all the girls just started arguing at once until dad stopped us all by saying “what’s done is done, so all we can do now is come up with a name for our new little family member.” “Um I like Nacho.” Isabel said. “Ok any others?” Dad said. “No, but I don’t think it should be Nacho because it sounds to much like Lisa’s dogs name, Nacho.” One of Isabel’s sisters replied. “Well if no one else is going to choose a name then…Nacho it is.” Dad said aloud to finish the conversation.

Nothing To Be Afraid Of

It was my turn. Everyone was cheering me on, I kept telling myself “I can do this, I can do this, I can do this” but I still felt like it was impossible, like going to mars. I smelled my own sweat and the occasional stench of fear, I could have sworn I tasted the fear too. I could see the girl on the beam, she looked so confident. I could see the girl on bars, she looked so dedicated. I could see the girl on vault, in her run she looked so powerful and full of courage. I felt like I was in the gymnastics competition because I was but my mind wasn’t. I could see the people on the bleachers cheering me on but I still didn’t feel the same I did not believe in myself. It was only me and the big blue floor, nothing else mattered to me. Suddenly, the judge raised the green flag, I took one step and…

The day before we were in Albany for the first competition of the season. I was so excited and couldn’t wait, but at the same time I just wanted to go home to New York City. But I couldn’t, could I? I was sharing a hotel room with Piper. It was really small and on top of that our moms were in there too. I felt like I was in a tiny Afghan home, only we had two queen sized beds, and, a flat screen TV. It felt like the longest day ever, like time had frozen just to get on my nerves and that was making me more anxious to go home. The tick-tock sound the clock normally makes sounded more like, “tick………….tock…………. tick………….tock…………,”

You know the expression, time flies by when you’re having fun? Well, I think that there should be a new expression that should sound something like this, if you’re really nervous and or bored don’t sit around and watch a clock..

Finally it was night and all the worrying had been like a dream but now it was over and it didn’t matter any more because once the sun comes up a new day would start. But I couldn’t sleep, all I could think about what was what was going to happen tomorrow. I had some sort of vision, not a dream because I couldn’t sleep. But a day dream, only it was night. I imagined myself not in the competition but watching my friend Miranda. She did her floor routine perfectly and I was thinking to myself, what if my routine looked that good? We were all waiting for her score to come up. Finally, her score popped up and it was a….Grace wake up, wake up! You have to get dressed. We are going to be late. I rushed out of bed and into the hall. I had forgotten I was in a hotel room. My mom had to go out in the hallway to get me. Once I had my leotard on and had brushed my teeth I still had to do my hair. It took forever.

Then we rushed out the door like ragdolls or puppets on strings, anyway out the door we went. We all lunged into the car thinking we forgot something but luckily we had everything. During the car ride I kept going over the routines in my head. Normally that works to keep me calm but this time it made me feel worse. All I could think of was all the possible ways I could fail. We pulled up to the entrance of the meet and I was still day dreaming. I was the last one out of the car. I was so nervous. I wondered if I was going to have floor first and if I was going to be first, because if I was first I wouldn’t have anyone to help me overcome my fears and I really needed someone to help me do that. I was freaking out, thinking about what if I was first what would I do.

Piper and I bolted through the doors. Once our moms caught up to us we checked in at the front desk to get our numbers. They put numbers on our hands so they could tell who we were.

Sure enough we were late, they had already started warm up without us. We went through our warm ups on the floor and joined the other girls. We split up into Uptown and Downtown and lined up on the floor. (NYC Elite has two gyms, one uptown and one downtown) The announcer called out all the names of the other teams we were competing against. When the announcer called NYC Elite we all stepped forward and shook our hands like we were saying hi. We stepped back and uptown stepped forwards and waved their hands just like we had done earlier. We were separated into A and B, group A had bars first and I was thankful that I didn’t have bars first. And I was in B the only other event I hated doing first was floor because I was the most nervous for that. But what are the odds of to happen, what if it did happen I had to have a plan. Then I had a strange idea, what if I choose miranda to help me like I did in my dream.

We walked up to first event, floor! I couldn’t believe we had floor first. Atleast I wasn’t first, I was second. On the bright side Miranda was before me and she would do great like she always did(in my dream and in reality)all my friends in group B started to warm up our floor routines and our most challenging skills. Then the judge called us over to wish us good luck like they always do. After that Miranda stepped out on to the floor, the judge waved the green flag and she was off. But I had forgot to tell Miranda that I was really scared so she couldn’t help me. But now her routine was over and it was my turn.

The crowd was still cheering as my routine started.I knew I had to get my head in the game and stop daydreaming about what had happened the day before or the hours before. Each step I took, each time I got further and further into my routine the more confident I felt. I guess just watching Miranda helped me because now I wasn’t scared anymore. And the next thing I know I was done with my floor routine and I was really proud of my self. And for the rest of the competition I wasn’t scared at all.

The problems we had with…

My group had problems with the way the cards described the point in time it takes place. What I mean by that is the way other people described something was different than the way we pictured it. And a lot of the cards we got were about the beginning of our universe and the movie so we didn’t remember all of the information. And we didn’t know we were getting a test at the end of the movie so we didn’t pay as much attention on the movie, but if we had known we would of study and really keep all our focus on the information.

History of the world in two hours

On Friday we got cards that kids in our grade wrote down about the movie we watched in class. Then we had to  organize the cards from what happened last to what was the most resent  stuff. When we got the cards they were all messed up so we couldn’t use that to help us so the timeline. Then we had to switch group and check each others work. What was really challenging was that we weren’t aloud to cheek our learning logs for the correct answers until we were done. One thing my group got wrong and had to fix was that we thought that the Hobosaibians settled in before the stone age then we realized that the stone age happened before they even began to move around. What helped was that we were allowed to work with other people so if we were unsure about something you could ask one another.
