On week four of my senior project, I finished getting the body to shape with files and rasps working on getting out small imperfections and bumps. I then made the pocket or joint for the neck. I did this drilling out some of the material then coming in with a chisel then finally a thickness planer to get the bottom of the joint down to size and to ensure the bottom was completely flat. Working on the neck pocket was very nerve-racking for me since there the fit-up between and the neck is so important for the strength and playability of the instrument. I didn’t just have to worry about a tight fit up between the neck and the neck pocket i also had to ensure that the centerline of the neck lined up and was parallel to the one on the body. I managed to get a reasonably tight fit and a parallel neck. I then hollowed out the body using forcener bits and a brace and bit drill. I then cleared out the excess material with chisels. After i hollowed out the body I cleaned up the two pieces i am using for the top and glued them to the body. i then cut out the shape of the body on the tops using a few different types of saws.
