CR5: Metacognition

EQ: What steps can I take to perfect my craft, so that I can become a better player and pursue my passion of playing basketball at the professional level? Or rather how can I perfect my craft?

I have not really discovered anything new about my process or habits. I’ve known that I am a person who learns by watching and doing. I also learn by figuring things out on my own rather than someone giving me their way of doing something. Specifically when it comes to learning new basketball skills or new moves, I find that I am more successful with learning something the more I experiment and fail. It is the repetitive failure of performing a move which helps me to develop my own natural feel for it and then perform it to the best that my abilities allow. I think the only minor thing that I’ve learned is that it’s much harder to have the motivation to persevere in a workout while on quarantine. Before, when I could go to the park it was much easier to maintain my “beastmode” mentality because I was farther from my house and couldn’t just think about going inside and relaxing. Now that I am so proximate to my house it’s much easier to have those lazy thoughts. However, I still push myself because I know I have goals and that I need to achieve those goals.

Something that I still don’t know is my limit when it comes to training and my ability to grow as a basketball player. However, I don’t think that that’s something that I will discover at this age in my life because I still have so much potential and latent ability that I don’t yet know about. This couple of weeks has helped me to see this, as I find that I’m just creating new moves, becoming more agile, and gaining more control over my speed. Also not knowing my limit is a good thing because then that just means that I can go so much farther and continue growing.
