I am on the third book of the trilogy. The book is getting very weird and complicated. I don’t really want to explain the science the book is explaining so instead I’m going to talk about the affect communism has on this literature after the idea of the dark forest. After finishing the second book this very trippy idea of cosmic sociology is established and used to keep tri-soloris at bay. This idea is built off of two fundamental axioms. First is the idea that a civilization must constantly be expanding, second is that a civilizations survival is its top priority. In a universe packed with life this turns it into a dark forest with every planet being a hunter trying to be as quite as possible. This is because no matter if a planet is melevolant or benevolent it will always try to destroy intelligent life no matter how advanced it is. This is because of the chain of suspicion and a civilizations tech advacenment happen in hundreds of years, therefore by the time you tried to contact the primitive society it could advance to levels above the original benevolent one. I know I did’t explain that the best but its super complicated and long to type out now I’m talking communism. The biggest ways to see the affects of communism in literature are the ideas of escapism and defeatism. As tri-soloris approaches many people develop escapist and defeatist mindsets which are very similar to those experienced during the cultural revolution. It’s cool to see how Cixin Liu integrates these ideas in a way that avoids censors. Also you can see a give and take with the censors. For example he made China the global superpower in the future, and a free and open place which the censors like.
