CR 3

As my project has progressed there have been a number of small changes that I’ve had to assimilate to. While my goal was to cook using all local ingredients, this has been challenged by availability. With the local market taking place on Sundays, it is not sustainable to retrieve all our food that was. Because of the freshness of the foods bought there, they cannot last particularly long. The grocery store, which sells a mix of local and non-local foods has been too loose with their Covid-19 precautions resulting in our boycott. Spruce Homegoods has become our savior though not all their food is local.

Spruce is a small mom and pop shop that sells artisanal foods, in particular cheese, as well as home goods. In response to corona, they have changed their business model to supply groceries and essential products to local families. Because of their ins with bigger suppliers, we have been able to maintain a steady supply of yeast, flour, and other hot commodities. By shopping from Spruce, we are getting what we need as well as supporting a local business. Because of the local support I have felt that this is an integral part of my COVID experience and impossible to separate from my project.
