EQ: How are various healthcare facilities around the world dealing with COVID-19, and how can understanding this help make the healthcare system more fair and equitable for all?

The first source that I chose at the very beginning of the project was about life insurance and looking at it through the perspective of the outbreak of COVID-19. At the beginning of this journey, I didn’t know what I was supposed to research, but over these four weeks, I decided that the best way to go about this was to do as much research on every aspect of our healthcare system and to at least know the basic knowledge of other countries’ healthcare systems. When we started our Senior Project, we still hadn’t reached the peak of the pandemic so I was focusing and basing my research on what was to come.

This brought me to my second source which was the Medicare For All Act that Bernie Sanders campaigned. At first, I didn’t think I would need to go into the specifics of the bill because I liked the overall idea, but digging into it, I did find some flaws that other sides would have differing opinions on. When I first dove into my question, I wasn’t thinking about all perspectives. I mostly thought about Democrats and Republicans and I stereotyped them to what I thought they would believe in. However, throughout conducting a survey and seeing everyone’s opinions, I took into account how to make my solution equal and fair for everyone, not just the majority of people.

Growing up as a child, I believed in what my parents told me, but now becoming myself, I discovered I have some different feelings and emotions about certain topics that are politically spoken about. For instance, over these couple of weeks, I looked into Obamacare and I realized it’s not the best solution for all and what others presented could’ve been a great compromise.

Looking through the Medicare For All Act was quite interesting. I copied down the aspects that I want to add to my solution but then it occurred to me that there is the Liberian side who are against the government controlling regulations like healthcare. I then had to modify my solution, as it is still in the process, but to include everyone and to take into account the differences as well as the favorable and the unfavorable factors. I am now in the last few steps of “solving” and figuring out an answer to my essential question but as I am not a politician, I don’t have all the answers.
