Peter Mamaev senior project update 4/30

4/30/2020

We are steadily approaching the endgame, and I just mass sent two final emails to my interviewees – artists Eric Gapstur and Emily Pearson. These two are actually interesting because of how radically different their art styles are. Gapstur probably fits what I’m going for a little better, given he doesn’t work with color and often does inking for major industry projects, such as 007 comics and mainstream DC universe titles. Pearson on the other hand appears to work for smaller publishers, and her art style is a lot more vibrant and colorful, utilizing that distinct yet loathsome pastel color palette and a nice blend between realism and cartooning in her approach. Certainly Gapstur appears to be the more familiar and topical stomping ground for me, while Pearson is a less experienced valley to traverse. This is why I wrote separate interviews for either of them, as I’m trying to customize my question to be the most poignant they can be for that specific creator.

You might be wondering why I haven’t talked about the comic yet. Well, that’s because it’s in a bit of a dire situation. Having wandered off script a few pages ago, I am now in a place where I still need to hit a few bits, while staying well within a meager page limit. These three pages I have spent literal days fawning over, rewriting and rewriting them to fit these few bits. It’s actually kind impressive how infuriating of a process this has become. Alas, I finally have the script completed, and will get onto blitzing through pages 16-19 shortly. This will be a difficult Friday.
