This week I have started going deeper into my own work. I started by finishing off transcripts from two moments that stood out to me when rewatching videos. I also had two meetings that were helpful with deepening my thinking about my project. I met with Allison to discuss the pedagogy of the trip in more detail and speak with someone with a more academic perspective about the ways in which what I’ve learned about documentary theater are and are not similar to the Junior Trip.

I also met with Joan’s husband Andrew about the process of editing material. He gave me some good ideas about my material specifically but also about the various exercises I can do to begin piecing it together. Now that I have final transcripts I can start working on the more creative part of the process. My plan is to use the pieces of transcripts I thought were most interesting and try to piece together a scene. I am also going to take Andrew’s recommendations and create a timeline of the trip as well as a timeline of a possible story or thematic arch. I am also going to spend time creating lists of characters and themes.
