A CR is a ONE PAGE consideration of ONE IDEA, MOMENT, IMAGE, or EXPERIENCE. The basis of your reflection should be analytical. Ask yourself: What do I want my audience to understand? The goal of critical reflections is give you the opportunity to critically analyze the experiences you have and the works you read, listen to, or view in pursuit of answering your essential question, and to make relevant connections between these experiences and works and the world.

–> Critical Reflection #2 Assignment: Describe a moment and analyze (CR2)

Write about a single experience or moment, and ask: how does this moment, experience, or encounter relate to my essential question?

The moment I will be going back to is when I interviewed Dan Harris and Dan Rather, both were experiences I won’t forget.  They both relate to my essential question because I was able to better myself as a storyteller and a journalist by asking them questions and getting to the heart of why they were journalists.  My essential question asks how journalists better themselves as storytellers for what I’ve learned so far is that you learn from trial and error exactly what I’m doing now.  I also learned that people learned through being in the field.

–How are you utilizing/demonstrating grit? How are you exploring your passion(s) and persevering?

I’m truly pushing myself as a writer and trying to see the boundaries of where I can go with the connections I can make.  I’ve also been pushing my critical thinking and analysis, I’ve been reading books so quickly I read a book in a two days and I’ve been studying hard.  I’ve also been pushing the hours and have been doing more hours than what’s required.  I love journalism and I’m trying my hardest to make better of my time.  Reading/writing and listening to more content has pushed me forward.

–You can also compare it with learning experiences you have had elsewhere, whether in or out of a classroom, at LREI or elsewhere (in relation to your essential question).

My learning experiences at ABC and other networks have been based around first-hand experiences, my experiences at home and interviewing have been put to the test.  I’ve learned how to push myself even more and make myself a better writer by writing more, instead of just listening and watching, I’m reading and writing.  I’m putting the journalism in my own hands and trying to make it better.
