Comic Strip #1: “Kitchen”

This is my first comic strip that I completed at the end of Week 1. When I started this I had an idea for a “storyline” and just drew a few boxes with stick figures to plan it out (thumbnails). I didn’t overwork it since I wanted this to be a “warm-up,” so I can get used to working this way and producing art from home (which is a lot harder than I initially thought). Like I’ve shown in my other blog posts I used my maquettes to set up what I’m drawing as references. (For example, here, the first photo correlates to the first scene)

For this comic strip, I also did not think about color very much. I kept a fairly neutral color palette that is closely aligned with the actual colors of the maquette set up. I did this because I felt there was a nice even tone between the figure and the scene that I wanted to keep. However, in my next couple of comic strips, I plan to use one or two photo references from Google because I don’t have certain backgrounds/settings available in these toys that I’m using. But using Google references means I have to pay more attention to color theory to create a unified image.
