Tibeau’s Final Project Proposal

FINAL PROPOSAL
Name: Tibeau Ferguson

Project Name: Concrete Monsters: The Beauty of Brutalism

Essential Question : How can I depict brutalism through photography

Statement of Definition

For my Senior Project, I will visit brutalist buildings and take photographs of them. I will visit different places in New York City and explore what each building has.

Overview:
Brutalism is a topic that I have previously encountered, and have been thinking about for a while now. Not too long ago I disliked this type of architecture, but something changed in my thinking. This is why wanted to focus on this for my Senior Project. I wanted to photograph these buildings because I also have been very into photography over the past four years. So I did some research and I found that New York City has many buildings. So, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, I will be using color film and shooting everything and then handing it over to the Color House. They can develop color film and hand it back to you. I will be using these photos to make a book of brutalist buildings in New York City.

How will you measure your success?

If I answer my main essential question and the sub-questions I have, I will feel very successful. My sub-questions are in place so if I can answer those, I will feel like this project was very successful.

Daily Plan & Schedule

Each day will be different due to the number of photos and places I visit the day before or the other day before. I will wake up and set up my bag with film and my cameras, then leave my humble abode and go to a couple of buildings. After, if I still have time in the day, go to the color house to develop my photos and pick up ones I dropped off earlier. After, if I still have time, I will use those photos to start the book.

Documentation Plan

I will have a photo book, which is something Susan does in her classes. It is a book made completely of paper, and you put test strips of photos and write in them. This way I will know what I could work on. I will have four different ones, one for each place I visit.

Material Needs

I need some color film, a camera (owned), a computer (owned)

Backup Plan

I will create a book, not using my photos, of brutalism.
