Project Name: Focused Writing

Essential Question: How can I learn more about the process of writing through research and experience?

Statement of Definition: I will be studying the process of story writing through independent research and writing a story myself. This will further my understanding of the process of writing and practicing my own skills as well.

Overview:

The question I am following for my Senior Project is, how can I learn more about the process of writing through research and experience? Also, can I maintain focus, so that I can write? In this Senior project, I will be learning more about the steps a writer takes in making a story or book through interviews and research, while also writing a piece of my work. To complete this project, I would need to have connections within the writing career and a proper outline for my story. I have already connected with other people, and all I need to do is think up questions and set a date where I can talk with them. I also have different online and literary resources for me to use to further my research into the process of writing. However, I may get more resources as my project continues. For my writing piece, I would need to make sure I can stay on target. The project itself is not on the finished project but rather what I did to get to that finished product.

This project is mostly an independent study in which everything can be done from home or at school. While I will be talking with other people and doing independent research, most of my time will be spent writing my piece. Since writing takes a long time, I will need to start preparing my story before the Third Trimester. The most challenging part of this project is writing something. 

While I have written many things, I have rarely shown them to other people. The work I have presented was mostly short stories and not the more extended novellike literature I create in my free time. However, most of that work I either delete because I had a new idea or got left behind because I can not think of how to continue. However, most of my problems stem from me not giving myself the proper structure to write. 

Through this experience, I hope to have a finished story that I feel proud of, but can still edit later. I want to help myself improve my novel writing and learn more about the process of writing. My project will provide information and experience so that I may continue writing possibly as a career. I will know when I have completed the project when I have finished the story or have something I would like to continue after the Senior Project.

How will I measure your success?:

I will know that my project will have been a success when I have created a piece of my story that I can proudly share with others. Also, I gain a better understanding of my own writing process so I can continue writing knowing how I write.

Note: The number of resources is going to increase as my project goes on.

Daily Plan & Schedule: I will be writing for about 3-5 hours a day to make sure I complete the 30 hours each week. For weeks I am just writing. I will probably complete 1-3 chapters each week. Each chapter should be around 10-15 pages. While I am writing I will be observing what I am doing when I write and how I go on with writing the story. I may write less on the days I am reading, doing research, or interviews which all vary in how long they take.

Documentation Plan:

The best way to record my work is through a journal. The format would be in time stamps Of certain accomplishments or a timeline. Each week will have its own log on what I did. It will be updated twice a week sharing the progress of my Project. It may be more or less than another week but I will always be working. This journal will be done online and outline what I learned about writing processes and my own process, and the progress of my work so far.
